Overview

Take Christian music's most trailblazing rock band, add a decade-plus of boundary-pushing rock and hip-hop, season with a few Grammy and Dove awards, and what do you get? Probably the best greatest-hits record to hit the genre in years. Listening to Intermission,, one is struck by how much this band has changed in the past ten years and how little. Early hits such as "Luv Is a Verb" and "Jesus Is Just Alright," both from 1992's Free at Last, mesh beautifully with such recent chart-toppers as 1998's "Consume Me." While dc talk have moved slowly and steadily away from the rap and hip-hop that characterized the group's early sound, the same vocal purity and intricate production can be found in both faces of dc talk.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide
For a Christian band to sell over five million records is a lofty statement; throw in numerous Grammy, Dove, and Billboard awards as well as 14 number one hits and the reason why it was time for a greatest-hits package from DC Talk becomes clear. Concerning collections, Intermission is a gem, drawing from four studio albums and one compilation, with room for two previously unreleased tracks. Highlights from 1994's Free at Last include the rap-laced Doobie Brothers cover "Jesus Is Just Alright" and "Luv Is a Verb." From the multi-platinum Jesus Freak, DC Talk includes the title track, "Just Between You and Me," and "Minds Eye," among others. Also included on Intermission is the cut "My Will" from the Michael W. Smith Exodus project. The song is one that highlights the incredible spiritual fortitude and vocal harmonies that the band is known for. DC Talk's latest studio venture Supernatural is represented by only two cuts, the title track and "Consume Me." One tasty tidbit is the Larry Norman gospel classic "I Wish We'd All Been Ready" from the 1991 disc entitled One Way. This rendition is powerful -- as the lyrics ooze with heartfelt passion -- and a nice inclusion in the collection. Of the two new cuts on the disc, "Sugar Coat It" is the better one. The song moves with an energetic pulse; the harmonies are tight and the raps are modern. Notably lacking from Intermission is the band's latest number one single "Dive" and the popular "What Have We Become." DC Talk has always shined as a live band, so something from its live release Welcome to the Freakshow would have been fitting. Still, Intermission is a bold statement of where the band has been and where it's going. ~ Steven Losey

Even with their greatest hits DC TALK has set new standards for the Christian Music industry. Songs like 'Colored People' and 'Consume Me'and especially 'Supernatural', 'Jesus Freak'really kick. Good remix of the Doobies song 'Jesus Is Just Alright'. Includes 'What If I Stumble'. This CD reafirms their status as a major (and positive) influence. Great music! Something for everyone.

I LOVED INTERMISSION: THE GREATEST HITS. I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO DC TALK SINCE I GAVE MY LIFE TO THE LORD. AT FIRST MY MOM DIDN'T LIKE IT BECAUSE SHE'S USED TO SOFT MUSIC. BUT WHEN SHE LISTENED TO THE LYRICS, SHE REALLY LIKED IT. DC TALK HAS BEEN A BLESSING TO MY SPIRITUAL LIFE. SONGS LIKE ''CONSUME ME'', ''JESUS FREAK'', AND ''SAY THE WORDS'' HAVE REALLY MOTIVATED ME TO TELL THE YOUTH OF TODAY THAT JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN. I'AM NO LONGER ASHAMED TO TELL THE WORLD THAT I'AM A JESUS FREAK.

First of all, EVERY song on Intermission is a hit. Every one is worth listening to over and over! It's amazing how all of the songs blend together so nicely, with some being 10 years old and some very recent. I loved the remix of Say the Words, and the new songs Chance and Sugarcoat it! I hope to see more DC Talk soon!
