Intermission

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger

First up is a version of the Sonny Curtis classic "I Fought the Law," sung in an almost indecipherable blue-collar brogue by Irish bad boy Colin Farrell. Musically it's a carbon copy of the Clash's version, but the actor manages to tap into the tune's working-class bloodline, extracting a surprisingly raucous performance from a song that's been covered to death by every nubile punk band in existence. The inclusion of U2's "Out of Control," a track that sounds as powerful today...

The inclusion of U2's "Out of Control," a track that sounds as powerful today as it did in 1980, adds needed weight to the set, allowing the listener to rise above fun -- but empty -- filler like the Fun Lovin' Criminals' "Scooby Snacks." "Newgrange," one of Clannad's darker moments, adds an air of introspection to the play list, striking a balance between sunny offerings from the Thrills and Ron Sexsmith. Overall, Intermission gets points for attitude and flow, amicably delivering a midsummer diversion like a mixtape from an old friend.
