EXCERPT:

There's even a freakin' roof garden at the top level. It gives an alluring, brilliant view of the city nightscape. Roxeth is a grand city, awesome by day but even more spectacular at night.

"This is so beautiful." I'd like to turn a little to face Jo.Zee, another "view" for my eyes, that wouldn't be too much of a bad thing. I'm lingering, breathing deeply, just because he smells so good. He isn't stinky in the turnoff kind of way--it's a sweet, natural, hint-of-a-sweat boy smell. I think I'd like this even more than if he were fresh out of the shower.

"I love rooftops," Jo.Zee says, taking in the city skyline. "It's nice dancing high above the crowd. Takes you to new heights."

I ask if he's ever danced on top of a building before.

"Many times...but never with somebody else."

Editorial Reviews

Catie Vargas
The Intern:Lust book 1 is one of the best YA books that I have read in a long time. The book has indebt characters, fast paced page turner with an ending that is so surprising that you will not see it coming...

I don't usually read romance-type books, but the fact that this book focused on dance really piqued my interest, so I decided to give it a try. It was a very entertaining read as it had a well-developed story that was enjoyable to follow...

For some people, Lust may be one of the most dangerous sins....but who doesn't like a little danger in life? For other, it may be a synonymous for fun. But, is it going to last? Is it enough? Are you willing to pay the price? (I'm a little intense over here!) Definitely the author make you understand the way Suzie lusts for this boy, but don't worry, she may not be very naive in her head, but she's very shy. There aren't sex scenes or something like that, but Suzie is definitely dreaming...

    more from this reviewer

A rather unsuccessful attempt of an internship, but fixed with the style of dance.

We join Suzie Q and her friend Chester on the way to their new internship and are introduced to their story as if we were old friends. I liked the idea of centering the story around an internship. I considered the combination of an internship at a museum and the first sin: lust, as an unusual one. But it was this unusualness which got me even more interested.

After successfully establishing a connection to protagonist and setting, the story went a different way. We meet the dance instructor Jo.Zee and Suzie starts spending almost her whole free time with him, his crew and the idea of making a Dance DVD.
The description of dance moves was very detailed, so that I could imagine their performances vividly. Dance, hip hop fans will really enjoy this large part of The Intern, but unfortunately I’ve got two left feet and can’t imagine enjoying dancing as much as Suzie Q.
Although hot dance moves and the perception of one’s own body hold a great potential to be connected with the sin of lust, I would have loved the setting of the internship itself, the museum, being more involved.

In the end I have to rate The Intern with 2 of 5 stars, because I am really no fan of dancing and the story focused more on dancing than working as in intern.

What surprised me about this novel was its ending, it was unforeseeable and a sensation of unexpected turns, rash actions and hilarious statements.

In addition every heading of the nineteen chapters represents a song, like “Leaving… on a jet plane” or “Girls just wanna have fun”. So before I started reading a chapter, I listened to the song and got a feeling for the course of the story even before it really continued. Nice song collection, I really enjoyed it!

I want to conclude with my favourite quote, which is a well known one, just a bit adjusted to the world and concerns of women: “To be overdressed, or underdressed, that is the question”~ page. 186

    THE VERDICT

The Intern is a light-hearted story about an internship and the bigger distractions coming along when being miles apart from home and everything you’re accustomed to. Fancy dance fans will enjoy this novel!
