Description: This is the fourth edition of a pocket reference for house officers and medical students for the wards/inpatient rotations. The previous edition was printed in 2002. The book is nicely organized for quick retrieval of information.
Purpose: House officers and medical students value easily accessible, practical information that helps them evaluate and manage problems that arise in the inpatient setting.
Audience: The authors meet their objective to provide "a manual to answer many of the questions that arise in the day-to-day management of their patients."
Features: The book is easy to read and is tabulated into several sections including: problems by presenting complaint, interpretation of laboratory results with differential diagnoses, step-by-step description of commonly performed procedures, ventilator management, drug information.
Assessment: This is a very well organized, valuable tool for busy house officers to access necessary and useful information for the care of their patients. This edition includes the most current testing and treatment options. Good reference lists are provided for further reading.

    Internal Medicine on Call

    This is a great book for medical students and residents. It's a great resource for Internal Medicine clerkships/rotations. It shows how to correctly diagnose a patient based on signs and symptoms and what tests are needed to be done to get to that diagnosis.
