Yet another fruit and vegetable guidebook, but this paperback does include far more information than Carol Schneider's recent, beautifully illustrated Fresh! ( LJ 9/89). Brown offers buying and preparation tips, serving ideas, and descriptions of different varieties, along with four or five recipes for each entry. Her recipes are fine, but the book will be most valuable as a reference source; Elizabeth Schneider's Uncommon Fruits and Vegetables ( LJ 5/15/86) is the standard in this field, but Brown's inexpensive book covers the more familiar and readily available produce. For most collections.
