Overview

Thinking of getting a home page or website to promote your products or business? Want to be a part of the vast world of Internet marketing and e-commerce, but have little idea of where and how to begin? I have discovered the definitive guide for "net newbies" like myself, to intermediate users who want a broader understanding of how to increase search engine popularity.

It is evident that Mr. Sekhar is knowledgeable in the area of Internet marketing and implementing the search engines for better results, yet the text is should be easily understood by nearly all levels. He has provided helpful lists of sites for many different services you may need. There are interesting do's and don'ts; pointers on the most common mistakes made by site owners thinking they will get a high ranking in the search engines. As an added bonus the pertinent information is delivered in an entertaining read, not boring as some how-to texts can be.

The detailed examples and concise illustrations seem as if you are actually on a web site, which will help the beginner get a hands on feel for using the tools for marketing a product. Thoroughly discussed are the opportunities for those on a limited budget and the fascinating world of the web which can be understood and implemented by anyone with a little time and patience.

This book should be required reading for new website owners who want to succeed. Those a little more experienced can benefit as well. I recommend it highly.

SECTION ONE: SEARCH ENGINE MARKETING :
Based on my experiences, some of the common misconceptions and assumptions among web masters regarding search engine marketing and placement are :

1." I know what search engine positioning is, and have used the Meta keywords and Meta description tags in my pages." ( If you do not understand these terms, do not worry, they are explained later in the book)
Gone are the days when only Meta tags could do the magic to your web traffic.

2." I have used the services of a professional "web designing" and "web hosting" company. They have done everything for my site. My site looks great"
Web designing, adding Meta description and keyword tags are part of the solutions to get higher rankings. Ask them to explain the specific methods they have adapted to help your site rank higher. ( You can use this book as a cross reference )

3." I am submitting to the search engines regularly "
Web pages have to be regularly submitted for re-indexing in many search engines. This is needed to maintain the ranking, increase the ranking or prevent their sites being dropped off. However, regular submission will not be of great help if the pages are not optimized for search engines

4." My web site is optimized for search engine ranking "
In reality, only the home page is optimized and other pages are not optimized. Each page has to be optimized according to the content in that specific page

5." I have submitted my web site to 1500 search engines "
Understand that the top 10 or 20 search engines gets 95 % of web traffic. It is more important to get ranked properly in the top search engines than all the others put together.

Understand the following :
1 .It is important to have a link to the "home page" from each page in your Web site . If not, there is a good chance that a visitor to your site might be left  wondering, not knowing which site he is in if he wants to .
2. Each page in your site has to be optimized and optimizing home pages alone is not sufficient

If you have adequate resources or money to promote your web site, fine. This book will still prove to be an effective compliment and guide to your web marketing manager. For others who have very little resources, each and every page is for you.

This book is not about search engine positioning alone. It is about all techniques that a small web site can adapt to get higher web traffic

Let us move on to build traffic to your web site that your site richly deserves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The book is divided into three sections :
Section 1 - Search engine positioning
Section 2 - Other low cost online marketing techniques.
Section 3 - Resources on the net

I enjoyed the book. The book is definitly different from others in the market. The way search engine marketing and ranking is explained deserves double applause. I have read many books all of them invariably have the same stuffs like banner advertising, banner exchange, common information like meta tags, etc. In this book, the author has gone beyond those superficial marketing tips- finely merging techniques ,modifying the web site for search engines - step by step approach for what search engine looks for, how to use stealth techniques to drive traffic etc into marketing. Good job done!!
