    Impossible

Having an intervention with the user is a great idea. However, it is widely known that these interventions do not succeed unless the user is willing to change their behaviors. I believe this title is a turn away and gives people hope to something that is impossible. This may be a comfort for them, but this book may be more for people who try to change other people and have control issues. This title does not make any sense, ask anyone in recovery.

Best book for friends and family of alcoholics

If you suffer from a relationship with an alcoholic or have a friend or relative who does, this is the best book on the problem.

    Clear, Concise and Informative!!!!!

The author, Vernon E. Johnson, D.D., has written a wonderfully easy to follow handbook. He first explains what "addiction" is and then gives you a step-by-step guide on how to have an intervention. Our six family members involved in the intervention literally took notes while one of us read aloud. Dr. Johnson suggests to "present reality" as it affects us. We all said we would not have been as specific of how this chemically dependent loved one has affected us had we not read the book. The author suggests to "rehearse the intervention" It was invaluable, even to those that thought they were just going to wing it! It is suggested to select a "chairperson". Because of this we did, which made it go so much more smoothly than us talking over each other. The paragraph "Conquering Your Own Reluctance" helps you through any last minute thoughts that this intervention isn't necessary....why me...maybe he'll stop on his own...it's sneaky. I can tell you this. Our experience in reading this book was invaluable and we knew it immediately upon reading it. I write this 10-1/2 months after reading it and holding the intervention for my son. I certainly could not have imagined that we would be where we are today. Thank God we followed these guidelines. This is the text I received from my son this morning. "I just left my 7am meeting and am at work now. I've never been happier in my life. Thank you for having that intervention that night with me. I know it wasn't easy at all for any of you and it took a ton of courage because you didn't know how I would react. I have 10.5 months of being clean and sober and it's amazing how good I feel and how much more I am looking forward to. I just want you to know that I am forever grateful to you for stepping up that night to save my life. I love you all so much and have a tremendous day! Love always, Mike" So I write with tears in my eyes - READ THE BOOK AND HOLD THAT INTERVENTION!!! I'll be praying for you all.

    Clear and Concise

This author is exceptional in his ability to state ideas clearly and simply. As the founder and first president of the Johnson Institute, he is also responsible for help received by hundreds of thousands of recovering alcoholics/addicts around the world.

    Excellent book

As the director of an Addiction Intervention program I stand behind Vernon Johnson's model 100%. The success rate is amazing! You do not have to wait until the addicted person is 'willing' to go into treatment. Johnson teaches us that an intervention raises the bottom so the addicted person does not have to wait to hit rock bottom. Our entire program is based on his model!
