Overview

This well-rounded set was the first one on which Larry Goldings (formerly known as a pianist) exclusively played organ. His trio with Peter Bernstein (a fine bop guitarist) and drummer Bill Stewart (best known for his association with John Scofield) is tight in the Jimmy Smith tradition, although Goldings also displays his own musical personality. Veteran tenor saxophonist David "Fathead" Newman helps out on "Skylark" and "The Intimacy of the Blues." Other highlights include Goldings' memorable original "Pegasus," "Jive Coffee" (based on "Tea for Two"), a faster than usual version of "Wouldn't It Be Loverly," and a swinging "When Johnny Comes Marching Home."
