Overview

Cali is a graduate student paying her way through school giving sensual massage to strange men at an apartment with several other girls, where she leads a double life and internally struggles with the job she has chosen, the friendships she has made, and the lies she must tell.

At the university Cali is a star student trying to finish her master's thesis on California archaeology. What the other students and professors must not know is that by night she makes money by giving happy endings to strangers. At first, she truly enjoys working at the apartment, since it brings out the sensual side she lacks as a student. She forms a close friendship with two of the girls and a few of her regular customers, but struggles with the fact that she is doing something illegal, dangerous, and looked down upon in American society.

Intimate Encounters is a humorus and occasionally serious account of the inner workings of the sensual massage business and the unique and sometimes pathological characters who work at and visit the apartment, as well as Cali's life and struggles as a graduate student in doubt about her chosen field and her future.

Editorial Reviews

Deb Schwartz
Intimate Encounters by Sierra Michaels immediately drew me into the characters and scenes of the sensual massage business and the struggles of the girls working at the apartment. The characters are very likable and the book is well written. It also delves into issues such as career choices, college life, suicide, guilt, and friendships. I highly recommend this book because it's a very easy read and after the first chapter, I couldn’t put it down.I have to say if you want a sweet and sexy

Meet the Author

Sierra Michaels was born in Cincinnati then moved to Los Angeles as a young adult. Because of her passion for culture, both past and present, she pursued a Master’s degree in Anthropology with a concentration in Archaeology. During her years in college she had the opportunity to travel widely and study culture first hand. She also realized that Los Angeles gave her a unique opportunity to observe the many subcultures within the city. It is one of these subcultures that inspired her to write Intimate Encounters.

Sierra currently resides in Florida with her husband, her loving diva dog Yoda and three rebellious cats. Most of her writing takes place at her second home in Bimini, a small island in the Bahamas. Intimate Encounters is her first novel, but not her last.

    Intimate Encounters Review

Intimate Encounters by Sierra Michaels is the story of a young woman named Cali who lives a double life. During the day she is a university student with dreams of becoming an archeologist. But at night she is a sensual massagist. Cali struggles to balance both sides of her complicated life, but in spite of her best efforts is unable to keep them separate. When the pressure of living in two distinctly different worlds begins to take its toll, Cali must make some very difficult life decisions.

Although Intimate Encounters is a novel which deals with provocative themes and adult situations, it boldly confronts the harsh reality that many women such as Cali find themselves in. Cali must face both the physical and legal dangers of working as a sensual massagist while trying to support herself. Being able to see the world through Cali's eyes gives the reader a privy look into a world that is alien to most people.

I enjoyed reading Intimate Encounters for its candid honesty about the sex business and inspiring message. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a story of a woman learning to overcome the failings of her own desperation.

A bold inside look at the sensual massage business

Intimate Encounters is a fictional book that covers all the real life inner workings of the so-called sensual massage business. The college student, Cali, leads a double life with all the risks and dangers that come with working in this business. She experienced the many men, both married and unmarried, who were her clients. In addition, she found herself breaking the rules sometimes causing her to get too involved with certain clients. It seems the money was the primary motivator. Through it all, friendships did develop, both with some clients and some of the young women she shared an apartment with and worked with. She eventually recognized that she needed to get out of the business. What do you say to your family? What happens when the husband of the acquaintance you know shows up as a client and you hope he does not recognize you? All it took was some serious soul searching to recognize that this was not life and not a healthy lifestyle. In the end, she made the right decision and got out of the business. A five star decision.

    Great Beach Read

When I picked up this book, I couldn't put it down. The characters and scene descriptions are engaging and the dialogue quick. I found myself laughing at some of the interactions between Cali and her sensual massage clients, as well as her view on the business and her unique life. I was drawn into her conflicted world and really felt a connection to her and the girls at the apartment. Cali's life as an archaeology student was also fascinating. After reading Intimate Encounters, I feel like I have a better understanding of California Archaeology and the sensual massage business. But most of all it was a good beach read.
