VOYA - Jonatha Basye
Since the age of seven, Pammi has traveled back and forth to a land called Zanum. In this mystical and mysterious place, she is an honored guest and has learned their customs and culture. She has tried to keep this place a secret from everyone, including her mother, who has tried very hard to erase Zanum from Pammi's memory. Thankfully, Pammi's mother was unsuccessful. Pammi continues to follow the golden thread to Zanum and discovers that these people she calls friends face grave danger. An entity in the future seeks retribution for a wrong that was committed centuries ago. He requires Pammi's assistance and power to annihilate Zanum and its people, but Pammi will make sure that does not happen. The way this story moves is a bit confusing. There is obviously a lot of backstory that is left out, and the reader is forced to grasp at clues that the author doles out over the course of the novel. Aside from that, the writing is solid and the characters are believable. It is a very quick read and will probably appeal to readers who enjoy the supernatural, paranormal, and mysteries. Pammi's journey of self-discovery will entice a wide young adult audience. The conclusion lends itself to a sequel, and it will be interesting to see where the author takes the story.
