Publishers Weekly

After centuries of protecting lost souls, modern-day earthbound angel Gawan of Conwyk is a month shy of retirement (into blessed mortality) when a new case drops in his lap-or, more specifically, onto the road to his ancient, spirit-inhabited castle. When he finds Ellie stumbling in the rain, she doesn't know who she is or how she got to the north of England; as it turns out, she's more dead than alive, a corporeal projection "fluttering about betwint the living and the unliving." To help her, Gawan's got to track down her real body and solve the mystery of her near death, but he knows that once he saves her life, she'll forget him-a matter complicated by Gawan's discovery that she's his one-and-only soul mate. Miles's sophomore novel (following Spirited Away) is another sweet paranormal featuring a sparkling lead couple and a supporting cast of ghostly charmers. Gawan is brawny, charismatic and funny; Ellie is a worthy, witty damsel in distress, and the growth of their relationship (despite the foreordained outcome) is plausible and endearing. A welcome break from vamps, demons and werewolves, this adorable, otherworldly romp is sure to leave readers feeling warm and fuzzy. (Nov.)

I found this story to be a light, enjoyable read. Gawan, who's a rather hunky guardian angel, is a thousand years old and close to retirement. This is something he waited for a long time, when he literally knocks into a dazed woman wandering about in a stormy night and soon realises that she's not quite 'dead'. It's her spirit he sees. Ellie is trapped between two world and would die if her mortal body is not found. The race for Gawan to find her and save her before it's too late is filled with urgency and fear since the corporeal Ellie doesn't know where her mortal body is and Gawan has less than a month to go as an angel who can help save her before he becomes mortal. During their frantic search, they fall in love. To fail means that he would lose her forever... and therein is the catch. Even if he does save her, either way he still loses her. As a guardian angel, after Gawan saves a soul, neither will remember each other. Now this is personal for him because he's discovered that Ellie's his soul mate... and losing her is not something he can bear to contemplate. Although this follows Miles' first book, Spirited Away, and there are some recurring characters, this can be read as a standalone.

I loved this story, the heroine had spunk, wisdom and a great job, she fell in love with a ghost of a man that every woman secretly dreams of. Great cast of characters, could not put it down.

This book was awesome! "Ellie" was injured in a hit and run and ends up with amnesia. Enter Gawan the angel slash knight to the rescue, wisking her off to his castle, that is until she dissapeared out of thin air only to return to his castle later. She teeters in between life and death. They have to find her live injured body and save her before she dies. To make matters worse she is his soul mate and both will forget each other ever existed once she is saved. This was endearing and fun to read. The mystery of who she is unfolded as the story progressed. However, I was left with some questions though, how did she end up in the north sea before her accident? I also thought that the urgency to find her was lacking a bit, yes, they were looking but his urgency was not what I thought it should be, they were too long at dragomere Castle imho. It just seemed like when he should be out searching frantically, he wasnt. Oh well time for a game of swords to take my mind off things. However, please dont be turned off this book by that, because everything else was great. Definitely swoon worthy love between Ellie and Gawan. The other ghosts in the castle were funny and endearing and a delight to read about. Im hoping in the future there will be a re release indicating how she ended up in the north sea before her accident. Maybe a story for her sister that ties up the loose ends with a brief summary about Ellies predicament? Aside from that it was a great read and I definitely recommend it!

Not being a heavy "Paranormal Romance" fan, I appreciated that supernatural aspects of the lead characters wasn't made that big a deal, and the focus truly was on their emotional relationship. Even without the idea of Ellie and Gawan being soul-mates, there is a sense that they just complement each other so well. Knowing that they are Intended allows the author to skip much of the wooing and just get them together. Unfortunately, there are some parts of the overall storyline that are ignored, briefly touched upon when convenient, or never fully realized. We know Ellie's motivations for coming to England, but the family mystery is wrapped up in a page of exposition rather than having them solve it along with Ellie's more immediate problem. And it wasn't made 100% clear how she was lost near Castle Grimm in the first place (before her accident). Overall, a light read, but quite an enjoyable one.

I was browsing through the books at a local store and found myself intrigued with the title. I hadn't read anything by the author before, but I was rewarded for my sense of adventure! Cindy Miles wrote a wonderful tale that combines, magic, every day life, and a very pleasing and convincing love story. So many times, the romance seems unbased, the hero and heroine in love for no apparent reason. These characters have substance and personality. Ellie, the heroine is saucy, quick and topped with a huge heart, making her easily relatable. Not to mention, the hero is completely scrumptious! I will reccommend this book to all of my friends. Im so excited to see that we have such a talented author from Savannah!
