If you use this book as a complete newbie to autodesk maya you will be completely lost with invalid old info that has not been updated to Maya 2012-2014 . Poor illustration and wordy explanations leave you scratching your head. Has some good information but mostly has the idea of "screw up a whole lot doing easy things the hard way and you will learn more!" This would not be my first reccommendation to learn maya. I had to use this as my textbook and completely new to the program i hated this book! I sold it on ebay right away!
