This book is a great overview of the entire field of global health / international health, including both science and policy. The chapters on infectious disease are particularly interesting.

This book does a great job of covering global health while using few words. It distills a large amount of information into a concise book. The chapters are well written and logically presented. It is up-to-date and easy to read. It presents important statistics and discusses the importance of each of them. It is an interesting book if you you just want information about global health but it also makes a good textbook for a beginning class.
