Overview

Now in its fifth edition, INTRODUCTION TO RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY continues to give readers an excellent foundation on which to build a career in the imaging sciences. It introduces the profession of radiologic technology and presents an overview of the body of knowledge that students will acquire in future radiography courses. They will also learn what to expect from a career in radiologic technology, what will be required of them as practicing radiographers, and what options they will have for advancement. The book opens with chapters on learning skills and a historical overview of medicine and radiology. Subsequent chapters cover essential topics in radiography such as patient care, ethics, medicolegal considerations, quality assurance, and radiation safety. This revised edition features a new chapter on critical thinking skills as well as significant content updates throughout.

The book contains predominantly color illustrations, with some black-and-white illustrations.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Susan Lura Sanson, MEd, RT (R)(QM)(Concordia University of Wisconsin)
Description: This is an introductory textbook covering the basic aspects of the radiologic technology profession. This is the fourth edition; the last edition was published in 1992.
Purpose: It is intended to serve as an introduction to the profession of radiologic technology.
Audience: The book is aimed at the new or prospective radiography student.
Features: The book is divided into three units: Becoming a Radiologic Technologist, Practicing the Profession, and Growing with the Profession. The units are divided into chapters, and each chapter includes objectives, an outline, a key terms list, and multiple choice review questions.
Assessment: This is a very nice introductory textbook. I applaud the authors for including a unit on the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and a unit on continuing education requirements. It is written on a very basic level, but touches on all the important aspects of the profession.
