TIMEBENDERS 3

MAX MCCRANE COULDN’T BELIEVE HIS EYES. HE WAS STARING AT TWO IDENTICAL COPIES OF ALLIE O’DELL—AND TWO IDENTICAL COPIES GRADY STUBBLEFIELD!

Then something even more impossible happened. A strange hovercar shimmered into existence, floating in mid-air. The vehicle’s doors opened, and two robots emerged, gripping weapon-like devices in their metal fists.

It was the Invasion of the Time Troopers!

The mechanical Time Troopers tell the young time travelers that they are under arrest for the crime of “chronological trespass.” They have unknowingly crossed into a “no-time-travel zone.” The penalty for their crime: a century in prison!

So begins another high-intensity romp through the fourth dimension. Along the way, Max is hijacked into the past by a schemer named Luna Skyes. Luna takes Max to meet the evil, power-mad villainess Madame Jacquelynn Hyde. Trapped in the past, with no way to return to his own time, Max must fight for his life and for Luna’s immortal soul.

Meanwhile, the Time Troopers chase Allie, Grady, and Toby Brubaker across the eons, from the era of wooly mammoths and saber-toothed tigers to the groovy, flower-powered Sixties to a strange and distant future. Along the way, the young travelers discover reserves of courage they never knew they had—and they’ll need every ounce of bravery they possess when they confront the fire-breathing terror of the Silver Dragon!

So strap yourself in for a hyper-speed chase around the space-time continuum! See how much robotic shock and reptilian terror you can stand! What would you do if you were tracked through the centuries by relentless robots? How would you escape the Invasion of the Time Troopers?

Young readers love Timebenders: “The Timebenders books are so awesome! They really encourage me,” writes Chloe. And Ben writes, “I’ve read all the Timebenders books! My mom reads them to me at bedtime and I take them for independent reading at school.” And Elliott says, “The Timebenders books are great! Now I’m writing my own book about time travel!”

And parents love Timebenders: “My son has devoured the Timebenders books,” one dad writes. “They really entertain him. We hear him laughing out loud as he reads.” A mom writes, “Thank you for books that are both exciting and appropriate for young readers. As a mother of three and a lover of books, I’m thrilled with Timebenders!” Another mom writes, “My son spent most of his vacation reading Timebenders—the first time he’s read an entire book without skipping pages! His video games are all but forgotten.”

Meet the Author

Jim Denney is a professional writer with more than 90 published books to his credit. He's been a science fiction fan almost all his life. "I was four or five," he recalls, "when I got hooked on a Saturday morning TV show called Space Patrol—about space cops rocketing from planet to planet, fighting villains and saving the galaxy.

"In the third grade I discovered "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. I was wowed by ideas like four-dimensional tesseracts and characters like Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which. I loved the theme: 'God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise,' A lot of great fantasy is based on that theme, from The Lord of the Rings to Narnia to—ahem!—my Timebenders series."

Jim's writing career has introduced him to many fascinating people. "I'm a big Star Trek fan," he says, "so one of the great joys of my career was working with actress Grace Lee Whitney on her autobiography, "The Longest Trek." I've also written books with supermodel Kim Alexis, Orlando Magic co-founder Pat Williams, and two Super Bowl champions, quarterback Bob Griese and "The Minister of Defense," Reggie White.

"Working with NFL Hall of Famers was amazing. Reggie was the most physically powerful human being I'd ever met. When he worked out on the StairMaster, the concrete shook beneath my feet. I was shocked, the morning after Christmas 2004, when I heard he had died at age 43. I feel privileged to have known him."

Jim is a big kid at heart. "That's the key to writing for young readers," he says. "Stay young, have fun, never stop wondering. I enjoy poking around tidepools, going to the zoo, and yelling my lungs out on roller coasters. I've always wanted to go to Mars—someday, who knows?

"I wrote the Timebenders series to give young readers the same thrills I got from "A Wrinkle in Time." I think of Battle before Time and its sequels as a thrill ride through time and space. Sure, there are deeper themes—courage and loyalty, faith and hope—but above all, I want the reader to enjoy the trip."

Jim is a member of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. He has also written science fiction short stories for various publications, and has several brand-new Timebenders tales already on the drawing board.
