The discovery of objects approaching from Jupiter orbit sets humanity on edge, sending cities into panic. Most is unknown, but thanks to the popular Astral space app, everyone knows the few facts the government has tried to hide:

The objects are enormous spheres numbering in the dozens, maybe hundreds. They are on an approach vector toward Earth … and they will arrive in six days.

Entrepreneur Meyer Dempsey is in New York, realizing the time has come to act on all the preparations he’s made without ever consciously knowing why. For years Meyer has been preoccupied by a dreamlike sense of coming peril and knows where he must take his family … if, that is, they can make it before society eats itself alive with fear.

This relentless, page-turning tale of apocalyptic dawn is the first in the Alien Invasion series by masters of story Truant & Platt, authors of The Beam, Robot Proletariat, and many more.

WOW. I LOVE this book. I thought I knew what was going to happen at the end by around the third or fourth chapter, but man was I wrong. I didn't see the third act coming at all, and REALLY didn't anticipate the very end.  I loved how this book took a subject that's been done to death (Alien Invasion) and gave it a brand new face with interesting but flawed characters, and a very human response to fear.  I cannot WAIT for the next book!

Like no other alien invasion book I've ever read before! Fast-paced and page-turning. The story focuses in on one family rather than trying to capture the entirety of the world, and what you get is a gripping experience, wondering how things will work out for them.  Can't WAIT for the next book in the series!

An edge-of-your-seat suspenseful read, filled with insights and plot twists. This book paints a believable scenario in a not-too-distant future, a time when 30-somethings characters are grandchildren of those who lived through 9/11. It's believable and suspenseful, costing me several hours of sleep trying to finish it. The character development is great, with many peeks into main characters' inner thoughts, insights, and feelings. Well worth a read! The authors (at this writing) are giving away the second book in the series, CONTACT, which is up next on my reading list. Recommended!

A Fast-Paced Read with Great Characters and Unrelenting Tension. Invasion is a masterful fusion of science fiction and pre-apocalyptic thriller unlike any other story I've read. At least for this first book in the Alien Invasion series, the invaders are kept in the background. Their presence creates a sense of dread, a tension that never lets up and sets the stage for the crumbling of society that starts before any actual contact. The story excels at surprises, twists, and an ending that catches you totally off-guard. The characters are not necessarily likable, but they keep you intrigued, and by the end of the book, you care about them.  Platt and Truant have written an enthralling story with muscular dialog, a well-drawn family dynamic and a stark look at humanity under stress. I'm pre-ordering Contact, book two in their Alien Invasion series.

Fantastic book.  Finished it in two days - couldn't put it down!  Loved the development of the characters throughout the story and the detailing of society's decline due the impending invastion.   Looking forward to the next book!

It's just another day in New York. Until NASA spots alien ships, six days away from the earth. Media mogul Meyer Dempsey has known that something was going to happen for months, and fortunately he has a fully equipped bunker prepared for just such an emergency. Of course, it's across the country--in Colorado. Unlike most alien invasion stories I am familiar with, this book takes place before the aliens actually show up. Platt and Truant explore the fear and desperation even the threat of disaster brings. The Dempsey family has to stick together, despite riots, lawless countryside, and most importantly the secrets that each character possesses. The authors said they set out to write a page turner with this book--and they succeeded. The opening few chapters truly capture the desperate urgency of a world under threat of invasion, and the last quarter of the book revolves around a desperate showdown that had me turning pages as fast as my Kindle could render them. Despite my enjoyment, the book had one flaw which kept me from giving it 4 stars (5 stars are reserved for the truly exceptional). Many chapters end in cliffhangers--one reason why I tore through the book so quickly. Unfortunately, in the middle of the book, the problems introduced in the end of one chapter were quickly resolved in the next chapter, which gave the middle of the book an almost episodic feeling. There was a predictable formula of Problem chapter, Resolution chapter, Character Reflection chapter that ends in a problem, repeat. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and if you're a fan of alien stories, apocalyptic lit, or have ever enjoyed a Platt and Truant book, this is for you.

If you have read Sean Platt this is very similar in style to his other books. The basics of the story are there...sort of, the characters are only slightly better than okay, and the ending, well as always...there isn't one. I keep trying to like his work and paired with Truant I thought let's see where this goes. Invasion is a get from point A to point B story, filled with the same outcomes...accidents, crazy mob mentality, no gas, no car, no easy way to get to an underground bunker supplied with everything from food to weapons until amazingly there is, then...sorry I won't spoil the ending that you will probably figure out. All this is salted throughout the book with various uses of not the usual profanity we are used to, but with vulgar crudity that does nothing to improve either the characters or the plot. I just don't get it. It reminds me of teens trying to gross each other out in a locker room. That alone stops the smooth flow of the storyline. Jp

I really enjoyed the premise of this book - alien space ships sighted 5 days before expected arrival to Earth in near future (self driving cars!) and how a NYC affluent family deals with this challenge. It was fast paced and enjoyable. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this and am looking forward to the next book. Good writing and reasonable editing. Characters are growing, and hopefully the plot will continue to thicken. I think most will like the story, give it a try. Kat

Enjoyed the more narrow focus on the Dempsey family's flight from aliens. Shows a more personal viewpoint of a plotline that often gets beaten down by trying to explain the alien presence on a global scale. By making it about this family, it makes you feel more invested in the characters and what happens to them. I got it as a free read, not really expecting much, and was gladly proven wrong. Was some predictability if you're a fan of the genre, but the fast pace and tense situations as well as the more personal feel more than made up for it. I would recommend this and am looking forward to reading "Contact" as soon as possible.

Meyer and his family race to reach his underground bunker in the face of an alien invasion. The story is gripping and tense and the aliens haven't even landed yet! I can't wait to see how their story plays out.

AWESOME! I'm not usually into alien books (probably due to some childhood trauma of watching Unsolved Mysteries, lol) but anyway, LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book. I got really invested in the characters and the storyline. Fast paced, funny, gripping, easy to read. I couldn't put it down, I had to know what was going to happen next. Pre-ordered the next in the series, Contact. Read that in two days, Now I have pre-ordered Colonization.... and I'm counting the days til it''s release.

Very good--if you are looking for a page turner, give this a read. Warning--it's enough of a page-turner that you will be left flapping your fingers after the last page wondering what happens next. The sequel is coming very soon (as of 3/11/2015)! One star less than five because (avoiding any spoilers here) the majority of the characters, while awesome and wonderfully flawed, do not develop much from where they were at the start, and I was hoping to see some growth in how they view each other. I like the direction this series is heading and think you will too!

I got this book free through Bookbub and read it in one sitting. I enjoy end of the world scenario books, which is what drew me to it initially but have to admit that many plots lose me after a while...not this one though. I feel the characters were well developed and could see more would be coming in the second book. I enjoyed their failings because it made them more believable to me. I was lucky enough to also get the second book for free as well and wasn't disappointed in the continuation. I'll be buying the third book and this is a series which makes me wonder what is next? What happens to the characters? Why are the "invaders" there and what do they have planned? I've gone so far as to watch some of the Vlog's the authors have done. These guys have got me hooked.

The authors have taken your usual alien invasion story and cracked it open to get to the meat inside. Well written & interesting beginning to what looks to turn into a classic. 4.5 Stars

While the story takes a bit of time to get going it finally lives up to its promise in the end. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series as the premise is solid and engaging.

Definitely on point in describing how quickly 'civilized' people can panic, become desperate, and things get really ugly. Ending leaves cliffhangers, seguing into the next book in the series. Overall, I enjoyed the book, its premise, and the characters. The characters all bring different perspectives as to how the crisis affects each individual. Caveat: personally, less profanity would have enhanced the story, and certain themes make it not child-appropriate.

Neat twists throughout the book. Kept me reading late into the night. Crazy ending that leaves you wanting more. I reccommend this book!

Totally not my usual genre. But, I gotta say, sometimes when reading reviews and being a free, "What the heck?". I couldn't put it down. The whole evacuation process, totally realistic, being an active evacuationee from Huricane Katrina and other madetory evacuations for high level predicted hurricanes (New Orleans ). Anywho, loving paranormal romance and such, this was different but, I loved it. Yes, the end was unexpected and unpredictable but that leaves eagerness to read the next in the series. .. so off I am anxiously to read #2. That said, yes I recommend this totally enjoyable read. Happy reading!

It seemed like this was probably the authors first book. So some of the writing could have been better. That being said, the story was interesting and I connected with the characters, and I will read the next book to find out what happens.

A good story. A bit confusing at times and some events a bit contrived. I've gone ahead and purchased the next to books as I think this is just a part of a longer story and you are left wanting more.
