    Slow beginning but bright future

I have heard nothing but good things about this series so I finally got around to reading the first trade. This opening arc was a little light on developments but it has wetted my appetite for the next series. I have really enjoyed other Kirkman projects so I have high expectations. The art by Cory Walker was simple but really good. The conversations amongst the Grayson was the best part of the book. I loved that. Overall, a good but not jaw-dropping starter.

    Gorgeous art, fun story

Invincible has some of the most beautiful artwork out there. I am a huge fan of illustrator Cory Walker's clear linework, yet complex compositions. His work has an energy to them, but it feels like this contained energy building up beneath the refined, almost minimalist linework. And then there will be an action scene where the amount of detail just flows. Ah, it's great stuff. Writer Robert Kirkman takes the standard teen gets superpowers and puts a great twist on it because Mark, the main character, has a father who himself is a superhero. And the family knows and accepts it. It's no big deal to take off suddenly and try to avert a disaster or stop some monster. It blends genuine humor, day-to-day life, big action scenes and angst to create a comic that could be an ironic parody of the superhero genre but instead ends up embracing comics and showcasing how much FUN they can be. I highly recommend it.
