An invitation to spend a weekend in paradise manifests into a ticket to hell, bringing death and destruction. In Kona, someone has decided it’s a time for reckoning. Against the backdrop of Hawaiian sunsets, luaus, soothing melodies and the crash of the ocean’s waves, deadly passions arise when three couples vacation at an island condo. Relationships are difficult and sometimes a vacation can do wonders in bringing back the romance. Sometimes the relationship is a hit, sometimes it fizzles out, and sometimes it’s an explosion of deadly passion.

Kim and Barry are having trouble in their marriage. More accurately, Kim is having trouble keeping her husband’s hands off his younger colleague. So Kim’s sister Dana offers her condo in Kona, Hawaii for the two to work out the kinks in their marriage. The trip might be just what Kim and Barry need. Barry is a man of routine and he carries out his rituals in Hawaii: a drink and a nightly swim—or in Kona, a float.

Frank and Bea are about to celebrate their 36th wedding anniversary. Bea has some terrible news for Frank, but she decides to save it until after the anniversary celebration. After all, they were fortunate enough to win a stay in a condo in Kona. And Bea would hate to see their vacation spoiled.

Ted and Susan are having marital troubles of their own when Susan falls into a depression about the growing gap between her and Ted. While she is preoccupied with political participation, Ted yearns for a sailboat—and another woman. When offered a week-long stay in a condo in Kona, Ted leaps at the opportunity to find out once and for all whether the marriage is worth saving. And Susan couldn’t be happier—until a picture inside the condo reveals more than she wanted to know about her husband.

Work is getting awfully busy for Robert Chang, who leads an investigation into two deaths and a hospitalization in Kona. Ironically, the crime scene is the same for each incident: the condo that had welcomed so many visitors to enjoy the beauty of Kona.
For the visitors of Kona, love and loss is just another day at the condo, or is it?

Meet the Author

A native Californian, Jackie Ullerich was born in Los Angeles, grew up in San Diego and attended UCLA, where she graduated with honors, earning a secondary teaching credential in theater arts and English. She also attained Master Teacher status, which qualified her to train and supervise student teachers at the high school level.

In a major change of venue, Jackie left the classroom for the world stage to travel and live in a variety of places, both in the U.S. and overseas, with her Air Force husband.
Her years of living in Turkey and Greece coincided with changes in government, including tanks in the streets. But hostile environments were offset by exploration of ancient cultures and the colorful tapestries of contemporary life.

Of her many experiences, teaching English as a foreign language at the Turkish War College in Ankara, was an adventure in itself. While her novels reflect first-hand knowledge of exotic and historic locals, California provides a backdrop for most of her writing.

Presently, Jackie and her retired Air Force JAG husband reside in Palm Desert, California where her husband golfs while Jackie writes.

Jackie has a strong readership following based upon her previously published works “The Bride Stands Alone” and “At Risk,” which are currently available in e-Book and print from leading book retailers.

Reviewed by Michelle Stanley for Readers' Favorite “Hell has no fury like a woman scorned,” and Jackie Ullerich shows how a scorned woman will react in her entertaining thriller, Invitation to Death. Three couples are given invitations to spend their allotted week at a Kona condo. Kim, a vulnerable woman, hopes the getaway will strengthen her marriage to Barry. Unfortunately, Barry drowns shortly after arriving. Tragedy occurs when the second couple celebrates their wedding anniversary at the condo. Ted and Susan are the third couple that vacations in Kona. Susan hopes her mild mannered husband will be willing to go along with her whims, but Ted’s infatuation with another woman rearranges her plans. Detective Chang doesn’t believe in coincidences since the couples stayed at the same place, and he investigates, discovering Kim is a connection in the cases. “Revenge is a dish best served cold,” and it certainly was in Invitation to Death. The story was a fascinating thriller that had a lot of suspenseful scenes and clever twists. Kim was irritating with her inability to make decisions on her own, but all the characters were fully developed with complex personas. Each was given a spotlight to air their opinions, which was interesting. I liked Jackie Ullerich’s meticulous writing style combined with wit and uniqueness. She cleverly connected the characters in an absorbing plot that was never dull. The villain’s hidden agenda is one of the things that keeps the story flowing and stirs a reader’s curiosity. I enjoyed reading Invitation to Death by Jackie Ullerich and highly recommend it.
