Overview

Having taken the enterprise by storm, iPads are now in the hands of workers in virtually every level of companies in almost every industry, and users are beginning to demand line-of-business applications to help them be more productive and efficient from wherever they are. From business intelligence and executive dashboards to customer relationship management and order capture solutions, the iPad has incredible potential to leverage existing investments in information systems and enterprise applications. Even many paper-driven processes today, from sales presentations to survey data capture, can be dramatically enhanced through the introduction of the iPad. The IT and enterprise software industries, though, are not prepared to take advantage of it. For those books on mobile and iPhone/iPad design and development, they do not take into consideration the unique aspects of the enterprise environment.

iPad in the Enterprise is a guide for developers and IT who are tasked with planning, designing, developing, deploying, and supporting iPad applications used in the enterprise.

The book features:

  • Considerations for both business and IT for taking advantage of the iPad and achieve dramatic ROI
  • Architectures for enterprise iPad applications and data integration with existing systems
  • User interface design and user experience prototyping tools and techniques
  • Criteria for evaluating and selecting the best option for software development
  • Enterprise-friendly approaches to provisioning, security, and device management
  • Case studies of thought-leading organizations that have empowered their workforce with iPads

Companion worksheets, user interface paper prototyping templates, sample code, and various other resources will be shared on the book's web site. Additionally, as this book is all about using the iPad to maximize enterprise productivity, several iPad apps will accompany the book that include worksheets, working sample apps, training instructor guides, resources.

This is a Must Have Book

IPad in the Enterprise by Nathan Clevenger is the most useful resource for every business and professional who does not want to have one foot stuck in the stone age. Extraordinarily well written, this book is both theory based as well as hands on practice. From the history which is relevant to a full understanding of how a Tablet device is both useful to indispensable to a well thought out section on the organizational deployment of devices in the real world environment, this book covers it all. Mr. Clevenger even shows the new developer how to jump right in and start developing applications for this very powerful and useful device. If there was any doubt to whether the IPad was just a toy or a really powerful business tool with unlimited potential, this book not only shows that it is, but explain how to make it so. Written in clear, easy to understand language that even a complete novice can jump right into, the professional will be able to get the benefit of the massive amount of research that went into making this not just a book, but a Bible for using the IPad. I actually sat down and read it like a novel, which for a technical tome is the highest compliment of all! Very very well done.
