    more from this reviewer

perhaps you can ignore the font issue

Several other reviewers have remarked on the [poor] choice of fonts for displaying code snippets. Yes, indeed, reading such extracts and quickly distinguishing them from the regular text of the narrative is somewhat awkward. But to what extent is this a real handicap? C'mon people. If you are indeed paying attention to the narrative, then the code should stand out perfectly adequately, just from following the thread of the narrative.

But maybe this also says something about those reviewers, and possibly some of you readers. Perhaps the reviewers are indeed focused on making programs with nice GUIs, and that this emphasis "bleeds" off into how they look at a text on the iPhone. Understandably, starting with how carefully Apple has designed the hardware and the firmware, the UI is vital to attracting users.

In turn, this leads into something about the book that a potential iPhone programmer should note. A lot of the book concerns back end issues. Especially connecting to a relational database, and the use of XML. No graphics in these sections of the book. But many programs will need data, and these are vital topics. The discussions don't go far into the theory or syntax of SQL. Enough in terms of non-trivial code is shown to get you started.
