In a dramatic three-week campaign beginning on March 20, 2003, U.S. and British forces (with those of several other countries allied in a coalition) destroyed the Iraqi army, defeating Saddam Hussein's regime. Over the coming months and years, former regime members, in addition to some armed anti-American elements from outside Iraq, began a long and bitter armed resistance. Iraq War, Revised Edition provides all the background necessary for a complete understanding of the circumstances surrounding this particular military undertaking. An important and timely resource for middle and high school readers, Iraq War, Revised Edition explores the history of the region as well as the recent events leading up to and culminating in the war.

Chelse House is proud to announce the updating and revision of its critically acclaimed America at War series. Features of this revised edition include the addition of color images and maps throughout, as well as extra sidebars and a new chapter on weapons and tactics used in the conduct of each war.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up-The war is defined as the three-week military campaign beginning in March 2003 and ending with the capture of Baghdad in April 2003. Introductory chapters discuss events leading up to the invasion, going back to the breakup of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, Saddam Hussein's rise to power and the origins of the Baath Party, the Persian Gulf War of 1991, and September 11 and the subsequent actions in Afghanistan. The book concludes with a discussion of the occupation as of May 2003. Average-quality, black-and-white photos appear throughout. There are a number of sidebars on subjects such as the famous deck of cards featuring pictures of major wanted Iraqi leaders, the hunt for WMDs, and the Al-Jazeera news agency. The analysis of this controversial war is fairly evenhanded, but the tone of the book is dry and academic. Purchase this detailed and thorough treatment where additional materials on this subject are needed.-Kathleen E.
