Children's Literature
Best friends Iris and Walter are off on another adventure when Miss Cherry takes her class to the aquarium. Going over all the rules, Miss Cherry tells the children to remember to pay attention and hang on to their partner. And if they get lost, to stay put. The bus ride is great fun but the crowds at the aquarium are amazing. The children are enchanted by the sharks, the coral reef and its bounty, the starfish and sea horses and the penguins. Suddenly, Iris realizes that the boy holding her hand is not her partner Walter, but another boy, who has lost his class. Iris runs to Miss Cherry's in despair and together they search the crowds, only to find Walter still standing in front of the coral reef. Walter does not realize everyone has been looking for him. Everyone is very relieved and later Walter tells Grandpa the whole story, of Iris finding Walter who didn't even know he was lost. This is another satisfying Iris and Walter story with delightful illustrations and a message, just right for beginning readers. 2005, Gulliver Books/Harcourt, Ages 6 to 9.—Elaine Wick
