The Iron Snake [NOOK Book]

Overview

It's 1897, a period marred by unrest in colonial Africa. Back in Britain, stories abound about the wild nature of the African railroad line. The tabloid term, 'Lunatic Express,' seems to fit. Join the spirited Alice McConnell, the Honorable Geoffrey Stanford and a host of fascinating characters as they witness Africa's first steps into the modern era and the transformation of their own lives.

    Very Highly Recommended!

Anyone who has the urge to read large-scale epics will enjoy The Iron Snake because it's that kind of novel, and it happens during the Victorian era, a period when morals and ethics were still valued, yet life was carefree and the pressure and angst of modern society had yet to evolve. This kind of book is always of interest. This is an adventure novel that is well worth the read. It's a tale with a sting to it and a lesson in history told with verve and passion.

First Rate-Great Combination of Africa and Adventure !!!

Readers who find contemporary settings boring or dreary will find Gaudet's Africa an exciting change, and they'll find in his book an exotic, exciting world, a world they can easily relate to because it deals simply and directly with violence, sympathy, hate, passion, loyalty, friendship, racism, love and betrayal.  Also The Iron Snake provides a more subtle and perhaps more effective way of understanding some aspects of African colonial history.  Reading The Iron Snake is a pleasure and much more fun than watching a documentary, especially since it involves the railway known in some circles as the 'Lunatic Express'.   --
