Recommended Another excellent book by the Finks! As a serious fitness guy, I have read and recommended their previous books to others to help them safely and effectively reach their fitness/performance goals. This book adds to that. Over time I've come to see the importance of hydration; the Finks deliver a thorough and accessible section on this--a convincing case that should get through to everyone. The same also applies to their coverage of the importance of fueling the body for optimal performance. The Finks then go on to cover the all aspects of strength training and preparation for various endurance goals such as racing and marathon running. Like their previous works, the Finks have a way of delivering essential information for the athlete/reader in a way that is easy to understand for both the novice and accomplished endurance athlete. This is crucial as I have seen many people sustain injuries simply as a result of their lack of knowledge. The Finks offer an easy to understand guide that is accessible to the endurance athlete who would not ordinarily pick up a book on the topic. The Finks have provided the reader with an effective way to integrate the athlete's lifestyle (diet, etc) with their training and performance/fitness goals in a way would not be intimidating to the novice or accomplished athlete. This book is an excellent resource for all athletes and one that I will be recommending to friends and exercise pals. Other books I recommend are: Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen which offers great insight into long distance running, with fine storytelling. If you haven't read this bestseller, definitely do. And The Marathon Monks of Mount Hiei, which tells about this sect of truly amazing Buddhist monks who to complete their training, run/walk 52.5 miles per DAY for 100 days. Any serious runner will find both these of interest.
This is the perfect book for anyone looking to do their 1st half Ironman. That's why I purchased this book in hopes it would help with training.
