Highly Recommended especially for ALL ELCA members!

“Is the ELCA Lutheran?” is a provocative title for Mrs. Goble’s book published in 2005. But it is appropriate because it poses the very fundamental question whether the ELCA has abandoned the most basic Lutheran foundation of the three solas - especially sola scriptura. It points out in a very well-documented way how the desire to be “open” and “inclusive” leads to going in direct opposition to very clear and numerous Bible passages. The book is particularly insightful having been written four years before the fateful 2009 decision to ordain practicing homosexual people. The book points out very well that moving away from scripture, faith and grace as the foundation turns the church into a social institution rather than the Body of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Goble is to be commended for the vast and extensive research which has gone into the writing of this book. It should be read by every member of the ELCA who is searching for guidance in these very important issues. It would have been well had it been required reading before the 2009 General Synod, and for the leaders of the ELCA as we face the uncertain times ahead provoked by the call to trust the “established processes”, “policies of guidance” and “those to whom (the ELCA) has given responsibility” - rather than the Holy Spirit speaking to us through Scripture.
