    I Also Recommend:

    The Continuing Adventure

In his book, The Island of Time, Matthew DeBettencourt successfully crosses time barriers, weaving two diverse cultures together. At every intersection there's a myriad of details to reconcile, yet Matthew DeBettencourt executes this masterfully. A steady progression of the plot captured my attention and kept me reading.

DeBettencourt paints amazing word pictures for the reader, such as, "...it glimmered on the floor, laughing at her for not having seen it sooner." pg 206 Being a visual person, these descriptions are very important for me to experience the unfolding world that he has created. Well done, Matthew!

One thing I struggled with was the naming of the detective agency and their members. I found it challenging to keep them straight in my mind.

Not all my questions were answered, but it was made very clear on the last few pages that the story is not finished! I look forward to the continuing adventure!

Book Review for "The Island of Time"

This is a captivating science fiction account of a murder mystery set in the future that requires time travel to a remote island in the past to solve. I was drawn into the story as clues were investigated by an interesting cast of characters with frozen dessert code-names of Strawberry, Chocolate, Vanilla, Fudge, etc. from the Sundae detective agency. The author does a wonderful job of tying up loose ends after the mystery is solved and finishes the story with a surprising turn of events.

I had to beat my teenage son at "rock, paper, scissors, shoot" to read it first!

This book should be made into a ride at a major theme park! There are bank robbers, hover crafts, magicians and deep sea divers along with a female group of detectives all vying for attention in these pages. Who knew time travel could be so fun...for a price.
In between the vividly described characters, native language of the tribe living on the island, and history lessons, there is also a message about kindness, humility and personal relationships.
This is one of those rare gems of a book where it is certain that the author had as much fun writing it, as I did (and now my son) reading it! Bring on the sequel!!

    Thrilling from Page 1

The Island of Time: The Journal of Randy Carr by Matthew Debettencourt is a science fiction novel geared towards young adults that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This book has everything you could ask for: a murder mystery, evil villains, pirates, time travel, and female detectives with ice cream-related names, to name a few. You will be sucked in from the moment you first pick up the book. As someone who tried to write a time travel novel at age 12 (or what I thought was a time travel novel that failed miserably) I can tell you that creating this kind of story is no easy task. Debettencourt does a wonderful job bringing to life an entire civilization complete with unique time travel machinery. The execution is flawless and leaves you wanting a second book.
