Overview

Short (U. of Hertfordshire) and Reed, a former director of the Holocaust Education and Memorial Centre in Toronto, explore the nature of Holocaust education in schools, partly by examining such theoretical issues as the need for such education, the factors that influence its evolution, and the reasons for the anti-racist movement's indifference to the Holocaust and its place in the curriculum. They also, however, include empirical studies on the attitudes and practices of teachers, and the prospects of using the Holocaust to promote responsible citizenship. They draw primarily on their own experience in Canada and Britain, but hope that academics elsewhere will engage with the issues. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
