Overview

It Ain't Truth If It Doesn't Hurt is spoken word artist Brandon Lacy Campos' first collection of poetic works that stretch, snap, engage, top, bottom, flip, and serve the intersections of race, class, sexual orientation, gender, lust, love, sex, HIV, and politics.

From his personal life narrative to his political outrage to his out of control romantic heart, It Ain't Truth If It Doesn't Hurt walks the line of pain and pleasure and brings to light some of the truths that slice us open, turn us inside out and sometimes sew us back together.

Each of the poems in this collection are matched with a print from artist David Berube's "Face a Day" collection. David and Brandon are former lovers, artistic collaborators, and this collection unites poetry with imagery and both tell stories that need to be heard and seen and ultimately felt

Wow! The raw emotion, the in-your-face reality, the passion - the poetry in this book elicited so many emotions in me, it was at times even painful to read. But I loved every word of it. The images Brandon conjures with his words, accompanied by David's amazing art work, are burned into my psyche and seared my soul. I loved loved loved these poems and only wish there had been more. I look forward to more work by this amazing poet and advocate for justice for everyone.
