Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Jennifer Rummel
This novel follows the super popular girls of the Louis Armstrong Academy of Performing and Creative Arts in New York City for one week. Tangie just started as a sophomore (she did not make the freshman auditions) where her BFF (Best Friend Forever) Syke rules the It Chicks and the It Chicks rule the school with their glamour, talent, and popularity. Sophomores Skye, Kamillah, Regina, and Tangie spend the week working on their craft, partying, and hooking up with guys. The drama in the book is not just for outside the classroom. All the classes are intense, especially during the first week of school because that is when students are chosen to audition for the Fall Fling Spotlights, the ultimate chance to showcase one's talent. Everyone is crazy competitive for the chance to shine. It is all about who you know to get ahead of the pack. Give this book to those who liked the movie Step Up! Williams writes an "urban lit" novel of similar style to the Gossip Girls books. The ending hints at a sequel. The street lingo might take a little getting use to, but the drama becomes addicting and readers will not believe that it happens in just one week.

    Gripping

Chicks is about a teens who attended Louis B. Armstrong performing arts school and all the drama they face(d). When I first started reading it wasn't that great, because it gives you the back story on the characters, which is a little too detailed. But once the drama of the first week unfolds, I guarantee you cannot stop reading this. All of the characters can be so relatable unlike a lot of other teen series that are out there. It Chick characters are probably some people you know, maybe even you (except more drama filled and prestigious). Anyone who likes Gossip Girl will enjoy this book. Like Gossip Girl, Its Chicks is told from each characters point of view. This is an outstanding start of the series and Tia Williams is a talented and witty author. The only problem I had with this book was some of the clichés (i.e. the constant slang), but I guess it has to speak to its main demographic. Also, one thing that made it chicks differ was how modern it was. Referencing constantly to what is popular with people my age (14, young adult/teens). Read this series you will love it!!

    ?

I liked it. I haven't read it in a while but from what I remember it was great. It wasn't predictable and I was always wondering what would happen next.
She did a great job and I'm still waiting for a third book to come out.

The Best Book I Ever Read!!

After reading IT CHICKS, it is now my favorite book!! I love the fact that it is very relatable and full of drama. From Tangie's relationship with C.J., Regina's secret identity, Skye's insecurity, Eden's romance with a plaitnum rapper, and Izzy's hidden past, this book has a lot of things going on. The way Williams tells the story makes the reader get into the characters and want another book!!!I sure am!

I absolutely enjoyed reading unitl the very end which ended rather abrubptly and unpleasantly for my tastes. The ending seemed unfinished and maybe a hint at a sequel or series I sincerely hope. This novel contains everything you could ask for in a teenage novel for young women. Read it, enjoy it and hope for another one soon.

I liked the book a lot in the beginning. The drama was very addicting, in that trashy-but-you-love-it-so-you-can't-put-it-down way. However, it ended very abruptly. NONE of the characters' major problems were solved. It sounded like the author was just setting us up for a sequel, but I don't think that's the case. I was very disappointed with the way the book was finished, there just was no closure, none whatsoever.

    Loves It!

This book is great. There definitely needs to be a sequel. I just couldn't put the book down. I went to Barnes & Noble saying to myself, 'I want to find a book about high school drama that I could actually see happening at my school.' I walked in there, picked up the book, and knew immediately by the description of the characters on the back that this would be a good book with lots of drama. It's the perfect read, and it really makes you feel as if you're actually a part of their world.
