About the Author

My name is Kerensa Gulliver, and I am a woman who fears God. I am a domestic abuse survivor, a single mother, a sister, a friend, a colleague, a prayer warrior, and a future wife. I am a woman who will significantly impact my generation, future generations, and the nation. I am not perfect, nor do I want to be perfect.
I am a woman who is growing and maturing daily. I am originally from Guyana, the only English-speaking country in South America. I migrated to the US with my family in 1995. I was the first girl in my maternal family to obtain a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Social Work. I have always had difficulties learning and remembering things from a young age. Coming from my culture, I don't recall such a thing as a learning disability. I remember physical beatings being the cure that I endured throughout my entire childhood. At age 32, when I was formerly married and then with three children, I found out I had a learning disability.
From a young age, I always gave others advice, whether single or married. I never understood it, but I was always keen to help others and enjoyed putting a smile on their face. In the country in which I grew up, there was and still is a high rate of domestic violence and abuse, and in some cases, many women died at the hands of their abuser. At the age of 12 years old, I had a friend whose father had beaten her mother so badly that I said I hated abuse without understanding it. Well, guess what? The very thing had happened to me. I spent over a decade in an abusive marriage and questioned how I got there. Through faith, prayer, fasting, and trust in God, I rediscovered myself and learned how to heal from traumatic situations.
What I didn't realize is that abuse has some roots in spiritual warfare. People frequently enter unhealthy relationships due to a lack of understanding. Additionally, when you are a broken person who experienced child abuse, sexual abuse, mental abuse, oppression, rejection, people-pleasing, low self-esteem, and so on and has not healed from those past traumas, it will resurface and affect you later in life.
It is beneficial that we learn to go through our healing process. This allows us to find our authentic selves, discover and address our disappointments and hurts, and forgive those who have wronged us. I encourage you to embark on this incredible journey of healing, rediscovery, becoming a healthier version of yourself, and developing an authentic relationship with God.
