We're smart, we've inherited classic good looks, we wear fantastic clothes, and we know how to party. We can't help it-we were born this way.

Our story begins with three inseparable, completely gorgeous fifteen-year-olds, Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, and Nate Archibald. Blair's loved Nate and his glittering green eyes since she was in Bonpoint onesies. Too bad Nate wishes Blair's beautiful best friend, Serena, was the one with the crush. And Serena has a secret she's keeping from them both. Hmmm, something tells me these best friends may not be as close as we thought. . . .

How do I know all this? Because I know everything-and lucky for you, I can't keep a secret. So sit back while I untangle this messy little tale and tell you how it all began.

Admit it, you're already falling for me.

You know you love me.

It Had To Be You was incredible!

The Prequel to the ever so popular Gossip Girl books, It Had to Be You by Cecily von Ziegesar, takes place in the center of New York City. Main Characters Serena, Blair, and Nate, are all friends that go to expensive prep schools in New York City. This is the story of events that happened before Serena was sent away and all the Gossip Girl drama occurred. Blair, Serena, and Nate have all been best friends since grade school. One problem they all face is that they all have crushes on each other. Serena and Blair have both liked Nate since they first met him. Nate also has feelings for Blair and Serena. Nate is aware of the fact that Blair and Serena both like him, and he is always stuck in the middle of them. Serena has high hopes of getting married and making a family with Nate but she knows that her best friend, Blair, also wants to have a relationship with Nate. Serena tried her hardest not to get in the way of Blair and Nate. Serena is constantly battling with her jealous side of Nate and Blair throughout the whole book. Despite Blair and Nate growing closer together, Serena knows that one day Nate will come running back to her. After all, how couldn¿t he? Blair already has her wedding with Nate planned, down to song that will play when they walk down the aisle. Blair is ignorant of the fact that Serena also likes Nate, and she tries her hardest to win Nate¿s heart over ¿ and it works. Blair and Nate end up dating, but while Blair is out of town Serena and Nate have a secret hook up. After Blair comes back home Serena tries to tell Blair the truth, but doesn¿t want to break her best friend¿s heart so she disappears instead. Read this book to find out why Serena left to boarding school and what happened to Blair and Nate after she left.

it had to be you review- Jasmin

High school is a place where your business is everyone¿s business and Gossip Girl makes it her business. In New York City everything seems glam and perfect but Gossip Girl reveals what isn¿t noticeable by the naked eye. People like Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, and Nate Archibald are especially her business. The world seems to always resolve around these three kids. Serena the beautiful blond goddess has everyone lying at her feet no one can ever find a flaw on or about her. She has boys, teachers and fellow classmates loving her and she¿s not obnoxious about it she¿s the girl everyone wants to be. While Blair (Serena¿s best friend) is also beautiful, and has everyone wanting to be her she¿s not nice about it she acts like she has to let everyone know she has everything and she ends up acting like a witch. Nate Archibald is the boy every guy looks up to and every girl wants to be with. He is the guy that comes between Serena and Blair in every situation. Blair¿s always been in love with him but he¿s always secretly wanted both of the girls which makes this book very complicated. Do you know how hard it must be on him being best friends with the hottest girls ever? It must be real torture. Gossip Girl reveals in this story what happened before Serena left for boarding school, before Blair became the queen of the school, and before Nate became Blair¿s boyfriend. I think that this was a great book. I tend to read fast, but since this was a really long book I wasn¿t so sure but once I started I just couldn¿t stop. Cecily Von Ziegesar has a way of keeping your attention and never letting you get bored that¿s why I loved this book.

    Couldn't stop reading!!

After watching the series on television I purchased this book. Although it is the prequel, I read it first. It's a real page turner. Once you start reading you won't want to stop. It Had To Be You is simply juicy. I recommend you read the prequel before you dig into the series.

After reading all of the Gossip Girl books this summer I was thrilled to get this one. It was amazing. I couldn't put it down and I read it in 2 days. If you loved the other Gossip Girl books you will love this one. It will answer all of your questions. Cecily von Ziegesar did a fantasic job again. I also recommend the show on The CW it is also very good.

This book is amazing so far. I have only read a little less than half the book but it is really great. If you haven't read the series from the begging I suggest you do before reading this book,or you will have no clue what going on. It would be pointless to start on the 12th one, especially since it's the prequel. Also, this book is very nice on the outside too. It is hard over, and the cover that goes over it is shiny and matalic. It is longer than the other Gossip Girl books too. Still, if you're a fan and read all the books, then you simply must get this one! All we can do is hope that our favorite author, Cecily Von Ziegesar gives us more to look foward to! Although, I did happen to hear the thirteenth book is coming out in May of 2008. Well, looks like we'll all find out soon enough!

Have you ever read a book and been like this doesn't make sense? Well sometimes gossip girl does that too you! But this book sorts everything out. It explains how Blair fell in love with Nate, how Serena wet to boarding school, and how Jenny became insecure. This book shows how everyone is insecure at one point in your life. If you are a gossip girl fan, this is a must read. And if you haven't read any GG, this is the place to start.

Could have been SO much more!

I bought this book with the excitement of reading it & it being a great book. It was a good book. That much I'll give Cecily Von Ziegesar. BUT it could've been SO MUCH BETTER and had so much potential! Now here are the good points because I don't like to bash things that people put hard work into. This is just some constructive criticism about how I fully felt about the book. I adore Cecily's work and I wish she did a book signing, sadly she hasn't and probably won't. The good points are how things began. You find out: how Nate became a stoner, how Blair came to love Audrey Hepburn, how Blair became a bulimic 'I call it bulimia, other's might beg to differ', why Vanessa cut her hair, how Dan became a writer, etc, etc, etc. Now here are the down falls in the book -Serena's stay at the boarding school is not talked about at all! I don't understand how this is so when in the beginning of the VERY FIRST book everyone's gossiping at how her stay was there, when no one knows ANYTHING that went on. And in the last book and this book the sequel they talk about, 'Fenner' a guy she had a little fling with. I don't understand why this wasn't talked about and all her escapades in boarding school. Or if she had an juicy escapades to begin with. Maybe Cecily would have shocked us and maybe Serena really was good in boarding school and only came back for you know who. None of this is talked about. That extremely disappoints me. It makes me wish that she wrote chapters for it. Or if not that she at least writes a 2nd prequel after this one. And it should be based on Serena's stay in boarding school. Then in the story a few times she could have gone back and talked about the other characters and what they were doing as well at that time. I expected to read of her stay there, and it didn't happen. Boy was I BUMMED! That would probably have been the most juicy part! - Gossip Girl is NOT revealed! WHAT?! I hope it's not because the show was coming out and she wanted Gossip Girl to be revealed there. Because with the way the shows going and it being on the CW network it won't last long. Plus I saw the first two episodes and it was a HUGE letdown to the book. I'm going to check out the rest of the show and give it a try. But this just really sucks. Gossip girl should have been revealed. I was waiting to read who it was and I was LET DOWN! My assumptions of who it was ranged from: Blair, to Serena, to Nate, to even CHUCK and Vanessa. And maybe even a tiny character such as Rain Hoffester. Or even Jenny to make it funny. Now I'll never know. I also wonder if she's not going to reveal it because she has a new group of girls for her next Gossip Girl series and maybe she might reveal Gossip Girl there. Or maybe never. - Also I would have liked to have seen Dan & Vannesa's relationship stories. This whole book just talked about how they get together, but I guess some things must be left to the imagination because the book did stammer to 398 pages!! -And last but not least Serena and Nate's first time. I think more could have been added. I don't know how to explain it but there could have been more. All in all I'll close with a good statement it was a good book, but I guess I wanted too much. Still Cecily Von Ziegesar kicks butt. I'm not sure I'll read the new series because I'll always love the old crew. But maybe if I miss Gossip Girl too much and if I read the first new book and it's good, I might give it a try. Just maybe. End Review: I hoped this helped. I want other's to still read it. This is just my opinion on it all!
