Meet the Author

Mary Jane Clark worked at CBS News for nearly three decades. Her twelve KEY News media thrillers were inspired by that experience. Envisioning the Piper Donovan/wedding-cake mystery series, Mary Jane enrolled in cake-decorating classes and researched unique wedding locations. The daughter of an FBI agent and a mother who customized cakes for the neighborhood kids when she was growing up, Mary Jane has two grown children and splits her time between New Jersey and Florida. Currently, she is concocting her next novel.

    Grabbed my interest right away.

    I was enthralled. Of course, any book that deals with the taking of a child is hard to think about, but yet it's in the world today. And, knowing something about the life of a tv personality, although not in the limelight like the characters, made it seem even more likely and easier to understand. But, the author wrote the book that made a difficult subject easy to read, from the standpoint of keeping the story interesting, with no low spots that lost attention. Plus, the ending was not what I had expected, so I was pleased at the twist. Highly recommend.

    Great read

    This was a great book. I read it while I was in Cancun and found it on a shelf. When i started to read it, it instantley grabbed my attention. It was really easy to understand even though I was only 10. I plan on reading the first book and this one again. I loved it!

    It does not make any sense

    The book is an insult to the logically minded reader. It doesn't make any sense. How did Stephanie know about the perfume? How are Rhonda and Stephanie related? Why did Rhonda's husband ask Janie to call him Daddy, if he did never plan to keep her as his daughter ... The last page seemed to be written by somebody else who did not read the beginning or the middle of the book.

    Sorry Mary!!

    Not up to your usual standards. It was boring to the point that I didnt care if they ever found Janie. And Eliza was a joke. If she was so concerned about her child she would have stayed home with her. Surely she had enough money and fame to realize what would happen.

    Great Book

    This was a really good book. It keeps you going until the end.<BR/>I have read a number of Mary Jane Clark books and I love them all.<BR/>You just can't put down any of her books----they are great reading!

    Fantastic read

    I will be buying more from this author

    ¿It Only Takes A Moment¿ by Mary Jane Clark Eliza Blake, is a very a successful anchor at a top rated morning News show. She thinks that she has seen the worst that man can do to man, until one day her young daughter and housekeeper are abducted. Now the horrors that Eliza has faced vicariously during her career, has become personal. Very personal. We, as the audience are treated to a behind the scenes look at what happens to a TV personality when their lives fall apart and we get to view it in brutal living color with a wide screen and high definition. This is a fast paced book about the four most critical days of abduction. It¿s tightly written with short, well paced chapters. Great characters, that are very well written and for the most part, believable if a little stereotypical. The red herrings alone add to the enjoyment of this novel and keep you guessing as to who-dun-it right up to near the bitter end. I enjoyed ¿It Only Takes a Moment¿ so much, that I will be purchasing several more of Ms Clark¿s earlier novels, and this one is defiantly a keeper.

    So many leads and running against the clock!

    Eliza Blake is accustomed to being in front of the camera. She just never expected her own life to be the leading story of the week. When her young daughter and devoted housekeeper disappear, Eliza moves into action with her friends and a varied cast of others in order to find her loved ones quickly. This is a good read, very fast paced yet intense, from the very beginning. It¿s easy to lose yourself in this story. There is not too much filler, just suspense at it¿s finest.

    A Thriller to rivel James Patterson!

    My Review of It Only Takes A Moment by Mary Jane Clark In the tradition of James Patterson¿s style of writing with the short, gripping, easily read chapters, Mary Jane Clark gives us the enthralling novel, It Only Takes a Moment. In the prologue, Eliza Blake, the heroine of the book, is walking up to a small casket in a funeral home. Immediately the reader knows they are in for a great page-turning ride as the first chapter then takes us back to a normal morning routine for Blake. Eliza Blake is the host of the highly popular KEY News morning show. She is used to dealing with the media when spellbinding news keeps the viewer riveted to their television set and the anchor tense and engaged. Leaving for work as normal one morning, Eliza Blake soon discovers that this is no ordinary day. She finds out that she is part of just the sort of frantic news story that she often reports on. Blake¿s 7-year-old daughter is missing and thus begins the thrill ride of a novel! Eliza realizes every parent¿s worst nightmare has happened--her child has been kidnapped! After Eliza had left and her 7-year-old daughter, Janie, was at day camp, Mrs. Garcia, the housekeeper, finds herself face-to-face with two odd cartoon-looking characters that attack her. They force her to call the Day Camp and tell them she is coming to pick up Jamie. What follows is a race to find Mrs. Garcia and Janie! Eliza springs into action on a mission to find her daughter, even though she becomes one of the many suspects the FBI investigate. Eliza¿s group and the FBI search through all of her fan letters to see if there might be a clue in them. Just when one of the many clues makes the reader think they are having an ¿A-HA!¿ moment, it turns around and leaves one still puzzled. The short, fast paced chapters keep the reader going from one page to another. It Only Takes a Moment is a gripping novel of suspense in which author Mary Jane Clark will be making many news fans that may have not read her books before with this reviewer being one of them.     A Remarkable Story

    Mary Jane Clark¿s latest novel of suspense is, by any account, a real nail-biter. Eliza Blake¿s seven-year-old daughter Janie is snatched from summer camp by Mrs. Garcia, the family¿s trusted housekeeper, and the story practically gallops from the campgrounds in southern New York to a shocking conclusion in the forests of northeastern Pennsylvania. The reader is drawn into the lives of various suspects ¿ an obsessed fan living with her uncle, a grieving couple trying unsuccessfully to deal with the death of their own daughter, a paroled sex offender with a penchant for little girls living with his unmarried sister ¿ any one of these duos might have Janie. Clark makes a convincing case for each of them, all the while providing a close-up of a mother¿s torture believing the worst as each hour passes. A psychic arrives on the Blake doorstep with clues to the kidnappers¿ identities and Eliza, grasping at straws, puts her confidence in the occult when the woman¿s visions turn out to be a window into the depraved lives of Janie¿s tormentors. As the FBI and local police track down every promising lead, Eliza¿s KEY News colleagues, the ¿Sunrise Suspense Society,¿ band together once again to investigate. With Clark¿s trademark short chapters, there are red herrings aplenty, enough suspense to satisfy any adrenalin junkie, and a twist at the end that no one will see coming.

    strong abduction thriller

    In Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, successful TV host of KEY to America, widow Eliza Blake loves her seven year old daughter Janie and trusts her Guatemalan housekeeper Carmen Garcia. However, after Janie goes off to day camp, a man masquerading as Popeye and a woman as Olive Oyl invade the Blake home they inform a distraught Mrs. Garcia that they will harm the child if she fails to obey their demands. Wired, Mrs. Garcia signs out Janie from Camp Musquapsink, but leaves a note ¿Call Police¿ on the log. --- When Eliza comes home she is surprised that her housekeeper is not there. Soon she becomes worried and calls the police. Because of who she is the FBI send Agent Barbara Gephart to head the investigation in which the prime suspect is Mrs. Garcia, but also focus on crazy fan mail and sex offenders. Her Sunrise Suspense Society cronies decide to activate while a seemingly successful psychic Stephanie Quick offers her services. As each hour ticks away, the chances of saving her daughter slips away exponentially. --- The KEY to the latest ¿musical¿ New Jersey thriller (see WHEN DAY BREAKS, DANCING IN THE DARK, DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET and NOWHERE TO RUN) is Eliza as readers will feel her fear and pain. The story line is fast-paced, but clearly character driven by the beleaguered mother, the kidnappers and the snatched pair.
