Overview

With a kidney transplant behind her, Avery Adams is determined to channel her inner adventurer and explore everything life has to offer. Adair (Chasing I Do) launches a series with this cozy romance combining mountain adventures and medical complications. Avery Adams vowed “to live out loud” after her kidney transplant, but her new job as coordinator at Sequoia Lake Lodge keeps her away from real thrills. With an eye on becoming an actual guide, she finds joy in fulfilling wishes for sick friends. She shakes up her quiet life when she impulsively kisses a stranger—who turns out to be Tyson Donovan, the long-absent son of her boss. He’s returned to Sequoia Lake, Calif., to discover that his father’s been having memory problems and the lodge is in disrepair. Tyson puts aside the lingering rift over his brother’s death and tries to save the family business. Adair successfully blends in various health dramas without letting them overpower everything else. Her characters shine, especially Avery, who exhibits total competence and clearheaded drive at every turn. The few real road bumps for Tyson and Avery’s relationship appear very late, but the plot surrounding the lodge’s future keep readers engaged. This promising start suggests strong possibilities for future tales of the residents of the Sierras resort town. Agent: Jill Marsal, Marsal Lyon Literary. (Feb.)

Oh - Marina Adair had me right out of the gate with this one! Avery - our heroine, just wow. What a strong and feisty woman. I want to be HER when I grow up. In that case, I would get Ty, right? Our equally awesome hero. I love how the author really created the backstories for our hero & heroine. I love a strong heroine and a hero that accepts her strength. Sequoia Lake is my new favorite series and I can not wait to read more!

Received an ARC for voluntary review for netgalley. It was a great book., it had its sad moments, but it was heartwarming. The book did have its funny moments and you couldn't help but root for them, even though they both wanted different things, he did not want to stay and she did. Avery had some hard times, so you could see why she wanted some type adventure. Ty had things he was working thru, but they found romance in each other, and so I always enjoy a love story. Cant wait to read about Liv.

I've been a fan of Marina's words for a while now, so I requested this without even reading the synopsis. I loved Avery and Ty. She's sweet and charismatic. He's charming and maybe a bit stubborn. Together they're adorable with chemistry that is off the charts. And there's a great cast of characters here; I can't wait to see who is next in the series. The plot was a bit angstier than I was expecting, but it was enjoyable. I loved the tension Avery's kidney created and the external conflict was not what I was expecting. Overall, a great story with great characters and a perfect epilogue. I am quite eager for the next book. **Huge thanks to Montlake Romance and NetGalley for providing the arc free of charge**

I really enjoyed the story Ms. Adair created. I will admit the first couple of chapters did not reach out and grab me, but I kept reading! It was well worth the effort. The story of Ty and Avery really touched me. Not to give away the story, but just all the trials both have faced and conquered to find their happily ever after! This book had a bit of humor, heat and great characters all around! This is my first book I have read by Marina Adair, but won't be the last! I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

When I pick up a Marina Adair book, I know I will be getting a fantastic, well-written story. It will be filled with fully-developed characters that you, the reader, will fall in love with. It will be set at a wonderful, scenic location you will want to visit. It will be flowing with witty banter (which I love.) And it will wind up being an engrossing, read-it-in-one-sitting novel. So when I began to read “It Started With a Kiss,” I was prepared for a first-class reading experience. And it delivered all of the above! But Ms. Adair had a surprise for me with this book, for at its heart it was so unexpectedly but wonderfully “soulful” it actually made me sigh! Avery Adams is just going for it. Hobbled by a genetic kidney disease for a good part of her life, a kidney transplant gives Avery a new lease on life. So she waves goodbye to the bank desk job she had and gets a job at the Donovan family’s “adventure” lodge, hoping to eventually move from coordinating customers’ adventures to actually guiding them up and around the Sierras! Tyson Donovan is the proverbial prodigal son, returning home to help with a crisis the lodge seems to heading towards. Ty hasn’t even made it to the lodge when he runs into our intrepid Avery, in what has to be one of the funniest “meet-cutes” you will ever read in a book! Before you know it, Avery is ticking off the boxes in her life journal while Ty is trying to figure out what is going on with the lodge, his dad and his attraction to the petite dynamo stealing his sanity! There are such profound and sad backstories to Avery and Ty, you cannot help but be moved. The delicate touch Ms. Adair had with telling those stories created such a heartfelt, sincere, passionate and mournful swirl of emotion. Avery and Ty handled those defining moments in very different ways; at first, I thought is was because of the ages they were when tragedy struck, but I do not think that was it. It was just a deeply ingrained reaction - Avery is the optimist, and Ty the realist, given his perceived family dynamic. Like Ying and Yang though, they both balance each other perfectly. “It Started With a Kiss” was the perfect start to this new series, and I cannot wait for the other characters I “met” to get their stories!

Almost a year after her successful kidney transplant, Avery is ready to really start living. She's taken a job at an adventure resort in the hopes that she'll get the training she needs to climb Sierra Point. After spending half of her life battling illness, she's ready to start living, for herself, and for the friends she's made that haven't been as luck as her. When Ty Donovan uses his vacation time to come home and get the family adventure lodge back in order the last thing he expects is a feisty event coordinator that get's his blood boiling before he's so much as set foot on the family property. And neither of them expected the electricity that starts up between them from the moment their eyes meet. But Avery want's to be trained to be a guide, and Ty is her boss. The last thing he can allow is for their feelings to cause something bad to happen on the trails in the Sierra's. They both know they only have three weeks. Once they really know each other, will that be enough? Can Ty get over his past and let Avery in? Marina Adair is an automatic must read for me, her romance always comes with a generous helping of steam, and It Started With a Kiss is no exception. I loved Avery's character. She was so warm, passionate and caring towards every person she came into contact with. And Ty is a natural protector. A hot, rugged mountain man that needs to take care of the people he loves. This is a must read. There were some great laugh out loud moments, and some extremely poignant moments that brought tears to my eyes. Check it out!

Avery is determined to Live Life Large. After surviving a hereditary kidney disease and transplant, Avery has decided to LIVE! She no longer lets test results, aches, and possible heartache run her life. Avery is determined to live without a "net", as she would rather live and experience loss than to have not lived at all. So Avery makes major life changes. Avery quits her stuffy, inside job to work at an Adventure-based lodge. Tyson, having loved and suffered great loss at the age of seventeen, decided long ago to run. He ran away from Sequoia Lake and the lodge and buried the pain in the past. He dedicated his life to becoming the best Search & Rescue River specialist around. That way, no one will have to experience the pain that tore his family apart. When Dale, Tyson's dad, starts experiencing dementia-like symptoms things at the lodge start falling apart. When the lodge fails inspection of one of the biggest events they sponsor, Tyson is notified. Tyson takes vacation in order to come home and help get the lodge ready for a second inspection. On his way into town, he runs into Avery--on top of his truck, writing on the windshield with lipstick.... Tyson and Avery are EXTRAORDINARY together! Avery has a memory journal, where she goes about filling others wishes they can't fulfill because they've passed away or aren't physically able to do for themselves anymore. When Tyson helps fulfill a little girl's dream of becoming a princess before her BMT, I sobbed!!! This novel deals with real life issues: death, survivor's guilt, cancer, dementia, pride, kidney transplant, etc. I absolutely LOVED seeing life through Avery's eyes. It made me want to be a better person, more giving. It also made me realize that I needed to go out and LIVE without fear. If I could give this novel more than 5 Stars, I would!!! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

My Thoughts Avery and Ty start off kind of shaky but as they grow to know each other their mental and physical compatibility gives them both sleepless nights. Avery is joyfully embracing all that life has to offer. After going through losing her Mom to the same kidney disease that she herself managed to conquer, Avery finds her niche helping others fulfill their dreams of adventure while pining for one of her own. Tyson Donovan left home after the devastating death of his younger brother, partly out of shameful guilt and partly out of self preservation. Now home to help turn the family business around after it is threatened with disaster he finds himself torn between wanting to run and wanting to stay forever. A concept that is foreign to the adrenaline junkie as well as terrifying in it’s intensity. These two strangers find themselves working together with the common goal to bring the Donovan lodge back to it’s former glory and in doing so form a bond that overcomes both their reservations about getting too close to each other. Who knew that living loud could turn into the best thing that ever happened to them both! Another small town with a big heart setting, an emotionally exhilarating tale that embraces the best and worst part of love and loss. New-to-me author whose ability to transport me into the story was a very pleasurable experience and would have to say that her characters she introduced so lovingly are some I have to revisit in future if given the chance. This was such a fun, sweet sexy story. One of loss, healing, and finding true love. Ty had so guilt from a past tragedy, I couldn't help but fall for him a bit. Avery is sweet, sassy, and brings out this brighter fun side of Ty. This book was a fantastic start to this new series, and I can't wait to read the next one! If you are looking for a great contemporary romance, this is it!!

I could not put this book down! The story of Avery a woman with kidney disease and a fairly recent transplant is trying to live life to its fullest. Her mother died of the same kidney disease before she could get a transplant. Avery takes a job working in the office at a rugged sport, hiking etc resort. But her goal is to become a guide on more extreme hikes and climbing. The owner of the resort is an older couple and the man is starting to deal with dementia. So his son Tyson comes home to help at the resort but him and his father have some issues due to a tragic event years earlier. I love the way Avery and Tyson meet, she brings some humor to the book for sure! Avery is so sweet and somewhat innocent but man she can manipulate in a cute way and hold her own with people. Tyson doesn't want to be home and has some issues to deal with but him and Avery together was cute, funny, steam and just entertaining. I loved the whole story line of this book and the characters were great!!! Can't wait to read more in this series.

Feel Good Hometown Romance complete with real life heart-ship and emotionally charged pasts to overcome. The Author paints a picture with her words of a beautiful small town filled with outdoor adventure and hometown pride. I love the name of their support group "Living for Love" Avery is just so sweet, smart and a survivor just now learning to Live her Life out loud. I just admire her strength and persistence to be as happy as can be no matter what life troughs at her. Ty is so breathtakingly uber alpha hero with a soft side he tries so hard to hide. This couple was so entertaining and fantastically fun to read I could not stop reading. Looking forward to my next visit to Sequoia Lake.

Avery Adams has been given a second chance at life and she fully intends to grab it with both hands, live it to the fullest, and squeeze every drop of adventure out of it while she can. She patiently waited after her transplant for her body to heal and for the time when doctors would tell her she was free to return to a normal life again outside the walls of the hospital, and the minute they did she was gone, armed with a list of adventures from fellow patients that she has every intention of completing. Her adventures take her to a local lodge where she takes a job as a guide, and before long she is crossing items off her list, and living the life she dreamed about... but the one thing she didn't account for is a man like Ty Donovan to walk into her life. The minute they meet the sparks start to fly, and they share a kiss that lights up her world, but things start to dim a little when she meets her new boss... When his fathers health takes a turn for the worse, and the family lodges livelihood is at stake, Ty Donovan has no choice but to return home and get things under control. But it means returning to a past that he's not wanting to face, and the very demons that drove him away. He figures he'll get in there, fix what needs fixing and get out, but once there and he meets one of his families newest guides, he finds himself tempted to stay... and wanting to fix the wrongs of his past. Avery and Ty's story is a touching read that warmed my heart, made me laugh, and had me swooning like a fool. Avery was a breath of fresh air, and never to cease to amaze me with her bravery, whit, and strength, she is truly an inspiring character for us all to look up to. And don't get me started with Ty, he was a dream come true, I mean what is not to love about a sexy, outdoorsy man armed with the skills to swoop in and save the day!! I loved spending my afternoon getting to know these two, and I cannot wait to make a return visit to this series and get better acquainted with more of these endearing folks! I think it is safe to say Ms. Adair has another bestselling series on her hands, definitely some of her best work to date!! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this

It Started With a Kiss by Marina Adair.....What a beautifully written heartfelt story, that pulls on your emotion strings. Marina Adair has started the Sequoia Lakes Series with a bang, I wish I could give it 10 beautiful stars. I absolutely love Ty and Avery, I felt all their emotions like I knew them. Avery has health issues and lost her mom to kidney issues, she is trying to live her life to the fullest. Ty lost his brother in a terrible accident and his dad is now having some medical problems, so Ty comes home to help with the family lodge. These two need each other to make themselves whole again, can they make it work. I love all Marina Adair's books, I know I am in for a treat and boy was I right with this one. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.

I've fallen in love with these new series from Marina Adair. Ms. Adair's very descriptive writing painted a beautiful picture of the small Sierra Nevada town that is the setting for this book. The characters of Tyson and Avery are both very intriguing. Tyson is a very physical and dedicated member of a search and rescue team but has to put his career on hold while he returns home to help his family save their adventure lodge. Avery is a young woman trying to live life to the fullest. Her history shows that life can be too short to waste so she goes after what she wants. Tyson is definitely on the list of wants but he's only here for a short time. Can she take the risk and put her heart on the line knowing he is more than likely leaving. Will he give them a try?? You don't want to miss this one. I highly recommend it.

OMG, what a fabulous introduction for me to this author. I had never read a book by Ms. Adair, and she now can count me as a fan forever. The story centers around Avery, a young woman whose life’s experiences inspires her to embrace life to the fullest. She sees a silver lining in everything, and considering her past, you will want to make her happy as well. Ty, is the son of the owners of the lodge where Avery currently works. He is a member of the Sequoia Elite Mountain Rescue team home on vacation , to help his parents with the lodge. Both characters are well developed. Avery is sweet, strong, loving and has a big heart. Ty, has been hurt by his Dad , but he too is a strong individual that even though he clashes with his Dad, all he wants to do is help and overcome his own guilt. It’s a story about life’s ups and downs, family dynamics, how parents actions affects their children even as adults. How guilt can prohibit us from reaching true happiness, even if that guilt is unfounded. But through it all, understanding , love , support, hope, encouragement and embracing the present, can truly heal and open our hearts. Thank you Ms Adair, for such a wonderful story. I am looking forward to more of your books. I was gifted this book by Netgalley and Montalke. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Life, love and the power of the human spirit collide in Marina Adair's, It Started With A Kiss. The Sequoia Lake series arrives with a powerful message and heartwarming adventure into unexplored territory. Avery has faced her own mortality and won. Now she wants everyday to be a challenge in conquering her fears and taking risks. Tyson is the biggest risk of her life. He makes her crazy. He pushes her out of her comfort zone while tempting her with his mere presence. Obstacles are meant to be conquered and Tyson and Avery will have to decide if they have the staying power to succeed. Ms. Adair is a favorite of mine because she knows that painful moments make for the most rewarding stories, but she levels the tears with laughs to break the fall.
