Meet the Author

John R. Erickson, a former cowboy and ranch manager, is gifted with a storyteller's knack for spinning a yarn. Through the eyes of Hank the Cowdog, a smelly, smart-aleck Head of Ranch Security, Erickson gives readers a glimpse of daily life on a ranch in the West Texas Panhandle. This series of books and tapes is in school libraries across the country, has sold more than 7.6 million copies, is a Book-of-the-Month Club selection, and is the winner of the 1993 Audie for Outstanding Children's Series from the Audio Publisher's Association. Publishers Weekly calls Hank a "grassroots publishing phenomena," and USA Today says this is "the best family entertainment in years."

Hank the Cow Dog is a dog that guards a farm. Hank also guards his family, who are Drover and his sister, but she lives out of town. Hank the Cow Dog was taking a break from all of his adventures and work, when he decided to go to his sisters and stay a while. While on his way to his sisters, he encounters many other bumbling adventures, and ends up in the dog pound. What will happen to this courageous dog? This is a very funny and a exciting book. It will have you cheering for Hank and you can't stop reading it.

If you like Hank you'll like this book. It is the same bumbling dog and the same bumbling characters. It's a different scene and with the addition of a couple of new characters. It is easy to read and keeps you wanting to read. When you stop in the middle of a sentence because you're laughing, to me that's a good book. It keeps you wanting more laughs, and keeps you expecting more from Hank and friends.

The Hank the Cowdog series is so funny, it keeps you reading until you're all the way through the book. Hank, the main character, is Head of Ranch Security. He (supposedly) knows everything. Drover, his stub-tailed sidekick, is about as sharp as a bowling ball. You'll always be able to find him hiding under the shed or staring at the clouds. Sally Mae, Loper, Slim, Little Alfred, Wallace and Junior the Buzzards, Rip and Snort the Coyotes, and many other friends appear throughout the series. You will have a blast reading about them. Very entertaining to listen to on trips if you have the tape versions. It will keep your kids quiet for hours as they listen. Ya'll will love Hank the Cowdog, I guarentee it! :^)
