Overview

Gwyneth Paltrow, Academy-Award winning actress and bestselling cookbook author, returns with recipes for the foods she eats when she wants to lose weight, look good, and feel more energetic.

Last spring, after a particularly grueling schedule and lapse of overindulgence, Gwyneth Paltrow was feeling fatigued and faint. A visit to her doctor revealed that she was anemic, vitamin D deficient, and that her stress levels were sky high. He prescribed an elimination diet to clear out her system and help her body heal. But this meant no coffee, no alcohol, no dairy, no eggs, no sugar, no shellfish, no deep-water fish, no wheat, no meat, no soy, nothing processed at all!

An avid foodie, Paltrow was concerned that so many restrictions would make mealtime boring, so, together with Julia Turshen, she compiled a collection of 185 delicious, easy recipes that followed her doctor's guidelines. And it worked! After changing her diet, Paltrow healed totally, felt more energetic and looked great. Now, in IT'S ALL GOOD, she shares the go-to dishes that have become the baseline for the restorative diet she turns to whenever she feels she needs it. Recipes include: Huevos Rancheros, Hummus Tartine with Scallion-Mint Pesto, Salmon Burgers with Pickled Ginger, even Power Brownies, Banana "Ice Cream," and more!

Editorial Reviews

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has won an Oscar, but recipe hounds are far more impressed by her credentials as the author of My Father's Daughter and Notes from My Kitchen Table. Her new It's All Good begins with what seems to be some very bad news: To cure her maladies, Gwyneth's doctor prescribes what seems like the ultimate elimination diet; one that prohibits sugar, wheat, coffee, alcohol, dairy, eggs, meat, shellfish, deepwater fish, and, did we mention anything processed, too? To survive this nay-saying onslaught, she consulted cooking whiz Julia Turshen. Together, they concocted 185 delectable recipes, each of which somehow managed to adhere to the physician's guidelines. As tasty as it is healthful.

This is actually a good book. The food in here are all healthy food recipes that Gwyneth sought approval from both a doctor and a chef. The book also explains why she eats this way and the benefits it provided for her. The recipes may seem weird for those who cannot live without bread, milk, and red meat. Also keep in mind that this is not her first cookbook, and that it was not slapped together as some sort of get rich quick scheme. The negative comments below were just made by someone who hate on any book that is endorsed by a celebrity. The only reason I gave this book a 4 instead of a 5 is because I personally would have enjoyed more pictures of the food.

For someone else who had the doctor recommendation of eliminating specific foods, this was a savior! I have no time to figure out these kinds of recipes on my own, nor do I have the means to consult a professional cook. This was exactly what I needed to keep to my doctors suggestion!

This book is really good. Great recipes! I am on Pinterest a lot, read lots of health books and blogs and I haven't come across most of these recipes. I am glad I bought this, even with being iffy about reviews I've read! I agree with other on more pics of the food s with recipes but otherwise excellent.

Honestly this is a really great book regardless of your thoughts on Gweneth Paltrow. I have recently changed my diet to eliminate dairy (I already don't eat meat) and I found the recipes to be very flavorful and easy. Flavorful being a key word for me as so many recipes don't seem to have the right balance and I would rather not eat than to eat something that I do not enjoy. That being said I highly recommend it to anyone. Also, just a note that this is not a vegan cookbook - there are several fish recipes and I think even chicken (although I need to look through it again to confirm) so it's a great book for anyone trying to be healthier. And the recipes are simple - this coming from a mom who works full time and has two children under the age of 3. It's definitely worth the money!

I think this book is fabulous. It has so many great healthy recipes and is laid out so well. I don't understand all the haters.

This is an excellent cookbook for clean healthy eating. We should all make our own salad dressings and sauces. Such a more natural way to eat. Everyone needs to get rid of the processed foods the industry has brainwashed us into eating.

As a clean diet fan myself, I like to have new food choices.  The clean diet is so very helpful and healthy, however, it tends to get boring.  Although I am not a fan of  cooking books (and cooking) I really need to have one that will help me organize  different menus. with food I already  eat.  So I will definitely buy the book, no matter who wrote it.

It's surprisingly a really good reference for beautiful 'clean' eating. Not for everyone, but it should be on some level. It is a well done cook book with fantastic recipes.

I just started an elimination diet and this not only tags each recipe so you know if they are something you can eat during the first 3 weeks, but they are all yummy looking and SIMPLE. I'm inspired by this book to really get simple as she does on the cooking.

I love this book. I enjoyed reading it immensely. I was very surprised the recipes are so realistic. I can get all the ingredients at my local food stores. I thought the menus would be outlandish, so I was very pleased to see recipes I can make for my husband & me. It is easy to see how much these ladies love to cook & enjoy good, healthy food, that doesn't taste like "diet" food. I bought one for my daughter-in-law, after I saw the great recipes. I am truly inspired to eat better & enjoy it.

I have really enjoyed this cookbook so far.  My son is allergic to most grains and to dairy and so this cookbook is very helpful!  I love the kid friendly section!   The ingredients are practical and easy to find if you normally shop organic - unlike some other cookbooks I have.  It is so hard to try and adjust regular recipes to fit our new lifestyle and have the food still taste good. I am so thankful for this new resource.  My husband has even agreed that he can now eat healthy because the food tastes so good!  Thank you Gwyneth!

I've had this cook book for a few weeks now and we're really enjoying it! We're not interested in completely eliminating dairy or gluten from our diets, but just living healthy and leaner. This recipe book is proof that you can live that way and still enjoy amazing food!  So far I can recommend = the Sweet Potato & Five-Spice Muffins (substituted regular flour), Turkey & Black Bean Chili with Sweet Potatoes, Middle Eastern Turkey Burgers with Cucumber & Yogurt Sauce, Grilled Asparagus and Portobellos with Shallot and Soy Dressing, Brown Rice Pasta (substituted Whole Grain) with Tuna, Olives, Fried Capers & Parsley, Cleo's Afternoon Shake, Momo's Special Turkey Bacon, Veggie Dumplings, Poached Eggs with Garlicky Spinach

There are some true gems in here. Amazing salad dressing recipes and sauces that could liven up any veggie/protein you are craving. Her banana ice cream recipe was mind-blowing because it was so simple. No one could ever guess. The pasta with tuna dish was also exceptional. All the recipes are very healthy, feel good food!

Overall, this is a great cookbook for clean eating; as they mention, it is compatible with many popular eating habits like clean gut, eat right for your blood type, and others. There is wonderful variety in the recipes, all of which stress "great ingredients" as key; unfortunately, they do not make recommendations for those who don't live near a Whole Foods Market or in urban cities where all-things-fresh tend to be ubiquitous. So for example, those who live in smaller cities or areas of a country not near a really good market (like Whole Foods) or a fresh fish source, well you're left to your own devices on finding those "great ingredients". The recipes contain no sugar but do have natural sugar in form of fruits, natural syrups or nectars and juices, albeit sparingly. While I like the style of the accompanying photography, I could have done without the large, full-page or double-page spread photos of Ms. Paltrow or a simple ingredient or two. I really prefer large color photos of as many completed dishes as possible, leaving a few "cameo appearances" or smaller, inset pics for the authors/ingredients/food prep or dining, etc.

I love these recipes! I have had success with everyone I've made and some of the juices have become a staple recipe during my week. I've also learned a lot more about eating clean and healthy, as well as some new ingredients to use. Thank you, Gwyneth!
