Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
What are some seasonal Christmas items? A wreath, a gingerbread house, and a Christmas tree are just a few of the items that are featured on the pages of this book. The pattern text is about what some people do at Christmastime, including building a snowman and wrapping presents. The illustrations are simple, large, bold, and colored; each picture fills each page. The tactile attraction of this book is the presence of six sparkling foil disks to be inserted at the top of the pages, where indicated by arrows. The disks slide down and add a bit of glittery shine to the picture. The holes in the pages of the book are placed so that the twinkly spots accent the pictures. For instance, the wreath has three spots that sparkle and glow like glitter. Turn the page to see the gingerbread house with six colorful spots. The last page is a Christmas tree with six holes where the glittery disks are visible. By turning the book upside down, readers can tap or shake out the disks, and then re-insert them in a different order. Adults and caregivers may need to monitor the 1-1/2 inch disks. Made of thin cardboard, they may be easy to lose. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
