Read an Excerpt

It’s never too late to become what you might have been.
• George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans)

This is one of my all-time favorite quotes. It’s powerful because it is absolutely true – and it’s even more powerful because its author, Mary Ann Evans, really lived the words she wrote. Living in Victorian England in the mid-1800s, she wrote under a male pen name, George Eliot, because she wanted her work to be taken seriously. At the time, women could publish freely under their own names, but they were seen merely as writers of silly romances. Mary Ann wanted her skill and talent to be recognized, so she did what she needed to do to fulfill her ambition as a serious novelist. It wasn’t too late for her, and it’s not too late for you, either. • What are your passions and talents? • Do you have gifts to share with the world? • Have you ever given up a dream in order to be more “practical” in making a living? • Do you long to pick up that dream again? • Do you worry that perhaps it’s too late to become who you might have been? This book is your answer to that question. You only go around once in this life, so why not live a life you love? It would be very sad if, when you reach the end of your years, you died with your potential still intact. Start now. Live now. Love now. Laugh now. Give full expression to who you really are. Go for that deferred dream. You were put on this earth to be the best “you” that you can be. If you don’t do it, nobody else can.

This book speaks to the fear that lives in everyone. You know that part of you that wanted to be an artist, or learn to surf, or ask out the girl and never got around to it? This book will let that person out from the boney cages and free it from self-oppression. The section 'It's Never Too Late to be Creative" is was particularly inspiring since I am a writer and often find ways not to write. His advice is structurally sensitive and encouraging, and he wants you to be the real you, who you always wanted to be.

A book that can only help you. Gallagher interviews real people

A book that can only help you. Gallagher interviews real people in difficult and exciting situation. My favorite is Elgene Doinidis, a middle aged woman who took up flying. The interviews are meant to inspire the reader to do something completely different from the ordinary and try something new. Enjoy the moments while you can is the overall message. Either by taking up a new career or expressing yourself creativity. Gallagher really shows how it's never too late to live your life at the fullest.

This book is amazing. I had no idea there was a book on the mark

This book is amazing. I had no idea there was a book on the market that was so inclusive of my self-help needs. I'm about to be a senior in college and am trying to decide whether to go directly to grad school or work for a few years and then go. The chapter on going back to school was very reassuring, and now I'm convinced I can go to grad school whenever I want! The same goes for the chapter on finding true love. While I don't believe in soul mates, I do have trouble meeting new people, especially when dating is involved. The chapter broke down what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. I understand that love happens, but these guidelines make me feel more confident that it will.

First and foremost, I just want to say that this is an attractive book. Okay, the cover is nothing spectacular, cute, but not particularly eye-catching, but the inside is really nice. I really like how some of the pages alternate between blue and white. I don't know... it's just... nice is all.

So the book is a self-help guide for getting the life that you want. For anyone who has realized that they've accumulated one too many regrets, this is the book for them. It's inspirational and it really gives you a sense of hope that there's still greatness to come, even if you're already past your prime like I am.

Anyone at any age can find inspiration in this book, but it's especially great for those nearing the "mid-life crises" point. I love the idea that there's still so much available to you at the time in your life when people usually think it's too late, like going back to school or restarting your career. If I ever feel like I need some quick motivation, or even just a little entertainment, I read one of the anecdotes that BJ includes in each section. This book is a great reminder of all that's still left no matter how many years have passed.
