Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Forget Deepak and Dr. Phil, Oprah and astrology oracles -- Fido is your best guide. According to NBC National Dog Show host John O'Hurley, your faithful four-legged friend divines life secrets that we should learn. For example: "Every 15 minutes is a new day"; "Never miss a nap"; "When one person stops petting you, move on"; "Every day begins with a stretch"; and, of course, "Let everyone rub your belly."
Library Journal
O'Hurley, host of the NBC program National Dog Show, champion of Dancing with the Stars, and an Emmy award-winning actor (for his role as J. Peterman on Seinfeld), reflects on the many life lessons dogs teach us. He interweaves memories of his youth including childhood dogs, his first love, homecoming games, and acting dreams with reflections on the simplicity of a dog's life. In such chapters as "Never Miss a Nap" and "Own Your Own Fur," he offers lessons he's learned from his own dogs, Betty and Schoshi. Unlike John Grogan's Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog or Jon Katz's A Good Dog: The Story of Orson, Who Changed My Life, this breezy and lighthearted look at dog behavior has no sad endings or sentimentality. Although O'Hurley's love for dogs is genuine, the recollections of his youth are somewhat uninspiring, and there really isn't much new here. An optional purchase. Fun Read

John O'Hurley is one of my favorite actors. He puts his personality to use in this wonderfully entertaining book. Loved him, loved the dogs and loved the stories. Anyone who loves dogs will relate to John's "tails" of life with dogs.

A book I will keep nearby for a positive lift. Dog lovers will also enjoy his relating life lessons to those observed in our pets. This would be a good gift book for anyone on your list. Easy to read and applicable to anyone.

    Great Book

I purchased this book for two reasons. The first being I love John O'Hurley and his wonderful sense of humor. The second being I am an animal lover and wanted to read about his dogs. He showed so much compassion and love for his dogs and it takes a special person to be so entertaining and yet tell of the adventures he and his wife have experienced. I really enjoyed the book. I would recommend it to anyone who loves animals.
