"It's Our Prom" offers a delightful and well-written look at teens and their world of friends, school, and, yes, proms. Azure, Radhika, and Luke have been friends for a long time and now are in high school together. Azure is lesbian and Luke is certain that he is bisexual. Both of them like Radhika in a more than just friends way, and they reach out tentatively to others who may be gay. And so Azure and Luke take turns telling this coming of age story that covers teenagers' ups and downs. Azure has been told by the high school principal that she can help turn the senior prom into an event that will appeal to everyone, but prom funds are low and there are few places that can accommodate several hundred high school students. Luke is involved in producing an original musical while helping his older brother Owen run a limousine service. But will the prom be a success and will Luke's play be the success that he wishes for?
"It's Our Prom" is a well-written and well-edited teenage story that deals very well with the lives of kids who seek alternate life styles. The plot proceeds to the end with the twists and turns and ups and downs in the lives of all teenagers. Author Julie Anne Peters accurately portrays how faculty prom advisers have problems of their own and the teenagers looking to them for help try to solve the myriad of problems that go with putting on a prom in their own teenager ways. This is a refreshing look at teenagers and their world.
