Rapt audience is very quiet in live recording

If you like Moravec, this CD should be on your wish list. If you don't know him, you should get to know him. These performances date from the 1980's, when Moravec was very much in his prime. The piano technique on display is legendary, the repertoire on display is solid chestnut.
The Chopin interpretations are very different from, say, Rubinstein, but no one since Rubinstein offers more intuitive rubato than this artist. Moravec is renowned as a Chopin performer and has been since his earliest recordings for the Connossieur label in the early 1960's.
The Beethoven Pastorale sonata, #15 op. 28, is beautifully done here and an addition to Moravec's recorded legacy, so far as I am aware. I would set it beside my old favorite version by Andor Foldes (DGG LP).
The Brahms pieces are likewise thoroughly enjoyable (the cover and booklet misidentify op.116 #2 as op.118 #1)
