K-Gr 2-- A book with a message of self-acceptance. Nahzella, a witch, has a tiny button nose ``. . . fit for a princess, not for a witch.'' She disguises herself as a fairy godmother, and sets forth to filch a scarier one. The farmer's long, pointy schnoz has hayfever, so Nahzella magicks the sneezer onto the baker and takes his big red nose for herself. Unhappy with it, she casts her third spell for a chance at the butcher's wrinkled nose, only to get a basset hound's instead, terrifying her faithful old cat. In one more explosive spell, she wishes all misplaced body parts back to their rightful owners. ``Fiddle-de-dee/ Fiddle-de-rose/ The best thing for me is my very own nose!'' Madden's scratchy, humorous drawings perfectly portray a pudding-bag, befuddled, ineffective Nahzella who couldn't scare even the most timid, regardless of her nose. She's a winner for sharing any time of year. --Virginia Opocensky, formerly at Lincoln City Libraries, NE
