I've enjoyed listening to the Pink Carnation series, but when I read this one I was disappointed. Ms. Willig has done wonderful research on the period, the customs, history, etc. Her character operate in tongue-in -cheek manner - very humorous. Yes, something was lacking. Still enjoyable.
