Gr 9 Up-These two Cold War adversaries are covered in typical series format. Connolly traces Castro's life as he transformed Cuba into a Marxist state that has withstood the collapse of Soviet communism. Although the focus is on the leader's politics, his personal life is also explored. Neville, however, appears more fascinated with Kennedy's personal life, and the chapter "Crime and Sex" delves into the president's alleged Mafia connections and extramarital affairs. The concluding chapter describes the president's assassination and theories surrounding it. Castro is the more balanced work and a serviceable addition to collections, while the Kennedy title is best avoided.-Carol Fazioli, formerly at The Brearley School, New York City Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
