Jack Daniels - Spirit Of Tennessee Cookbook By Lynne Tolley and Pat Mitchamore Thomas Nelson Publishing This is my first cookbook review, and I have to say that I was rather excited to try out some honest southern-style cooking. Since I don't drink, I wasn't sure how the introduction of Jack Daniels Whiskey to the cooking process would affect the final product, but I was plesantly surprised to find that it simply colored the finished dishes with a somewhat unique flavor. Overall, the presentation of the book is tremendous. The cookbook is so much more than merely a bunch of recipes that are thown together. The authors of this book gathered pages and pages of history-- not just about Jack Daniels, but about Tennessee itself. There is a wonderful piece about Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding house in Lynchburg Tennessee, a nice short biography of Moore County Tennessee, and there's a Hardware and General Store that has such a beautiful story that I will make a point to stop by the next time I am in Tennessee. All in all, I highly reccommend this book if you are cook, a lover of food, or a fan of down home-southern hospitality. I thought I was just getting a cookbook, but I got so much more.

Jack Daniel's Spirit of Tennessee Cookbook is not merely a list of mixed drink recipes. It is a cookbook that also serves as a history book, highlighting the people and culture of Lynchburg, Tennessee. It is filled with scenic full color pictures that compliment the recipes in this book. (And no, not all of them require whiskey.) The recipes in this cookbook are diverse. There are recipes for every occasion and taste. The recipes have a decidedly southern flair to them. I was especially drawn to the zucchini and tomato salad recipe that calls for Dijon mustard (yummy!). The book even includes directions on how to set up a pit barbecue in your backyard! I do not drink alcohol, but there are many recipes in this cookbook that I can use. Most call for the famous Jack Daniel's whiskey, but many do not. Also, the alcohol in almost every one of these recipes is cooked out, leaving just the classic flavor. Jack Daniel's Spirit of Tennessee Cookbook would be a beautiful addition to any kitchen. The format makes it easy to page through and browse the tantalizing recipes. Even the cover is charming! Pick up a copy next time you are in the mood for some southern cooking! This book was provided free of charge for my review by Thomas Nelson Publishers through the Book Review Bloggers program. http://brb.thomasnelson.com/

The Spirit of Tennessee Cookbook has become one of my favorite cookbooks! Not only is it packed with down home super recipes, passed down from generation to generation, but it's also full of beautiful Southern photo's and history. It will make a wonderful keepsake and provide you with a fantastic journey down memory lane. You'll enjoy reading about Miss BoBo's Boarding House, learning what whittling is, and don't forget about those Tennessee Walking horses! I was a little skeptical about getting The Spirit of Tennessee Cookbook because I was thinking all the recipes would contain alcohol. I was so thrilled and quickly proven wrong! Some of my favorite recipes included Poor Man's Caviar, Spinach Tarts, and Uncle Jack's Applesauce Cake. Another great thing about The Spirit of Tennessee Cookbook is the recipes are so simple to follow and many just use normal everyday items that you already have in your cupboards. http://jensbooktalk.blogspot.com/
