A Texas police officer solves a crime with help from her sisters, living and departed, in this entertaining cozy. Madelyn Castillo, a widowed single parent and rookie cop, is babysitting Gino Bernardi and Alan Foxworthy, who are in lockup after a fight over a woman in a bar. Then Maddy's dead sister, Tessa, appears to warn her that trouble is coming. Right on cue, Maddy gets a threatening call on her cellphone and instructions to put her gun on the desk and lock herself in the ladies' room, or her mother and daughter will die. While she's obediently hiding, Bernardi is shot dead, and Foxworthy is wounded with her abandoned Glock. Colton Winslow, sheriff of Vineyard County, doesn't want to hold Maddy for murder; he was once Tessa's husband and is now married to one of Maddy's three surviving sisters. But when Foxworthy IDs Maddy as the perp and a video shows a woman who looks like her shooting both Foxworthy and Bernardi, Colt has to arrest Maddy and tell her sisters to stay off the case—which, of course, they don't. Maddy's fortunes go downhill from there. Foxworthy is murdered before Tony Pirelli, the high-rolling Dallas lawyer who's taken Maddy's case, can question him. At least Maddy gets occasional pointers from Tessa and protection from a handsome insurance investigator searching for a missing necklace. But even with a ghostly adviser and the help of her other sisters, Tessa is unprepared—perhaps more than the reader—to find out that the mystery is not confined to Vineyard County and that not all the newcomers in her life are what they seem. Readers who can accept Tessa's ghost will appreciate the novel dimension her insights and cheeky commentary add to Lipperman's second Dead Sister Talking mystery (Heard It Through the Grapevine, 2013). Even those who find Tessa an annoying gimmick can still enjoy the closeness of the sisters and the suspense of the case.

Title: Jailhouse Glock - Dead Sister Talking Mystery 2 Author: Lizbeth Lipperman Published: 5-8-2014 Publisher: Midnight Ink Pages: 288 Genre: Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Sub Genre: Women Sleuths; Cozy Mystery ISBN: 9780738739939 Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley Rating: 4 1/2 Stars . Maddie Castillo, is a widow, the oldest of five sisters, a single mother and a cop in the town of Grapevine, Texas. Stuck on night duty Maddie is being frames when an obnoxious and offensive drunk dies while Maddie is on watch. All of her sisters band together to help clear Maddie and find the real killer. That's right all of her sisters, including Tessa, her dead sister. As the criminal element in Grapevine swells Maddie, Tessa, Deena, Kate and Laine watch each other's backs to keep one another safe as the figure out who set up Maddie and what could possibly have been hidden by the dead man valuable enough to kill for. Can they find the answer before a killer turns their sights on them? The humor between the sisters keep the story on the lighter side. The fact that the deceased sister staying around to interact with the others is what drew me to the series. A unique and intriguing concept. Lizbeth Lipperman plans out her plots to keep the story line on target. Dynamic characters, interesting plots and humorous dialog come together to form a story that you will not want to put down until the very last page is completed. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

I recently read Heard It Through the Grapevine, and could not wait to read the second in the Dead Sister Talking series: Jailhouse Glock. I was not disappointed. The wonderfully sassy sister, Tessa, who has died, returns to her sister Maddy’s aid in this installment of the series. Tessa shows herself to Maddy at work one evening and announces she is there to help her out of trouble. (At that point her sister didn’t know there was any problem.) Maddy is a widow, and a rookie cop. On a holiday weekend, she is the only one working in the small town police station, when she is set up for the murder of a drunk in jail under her watch. The Garcia sisters also include Lainey, Deena, and Kate. Together, the five sisters circle the wagons to exonerate Maddy. This loud, loving, joking family shares in each other’s joys, pains, and challenges. Joining together over food and drinks, they are a formidable team. No one who knew Tessa in life would have envisioned her as the guardian angel of the family. That’s part of the fun in this series. Since I come from a large, loud, and loving family, myself, I truly enjoy the interaction of the sisters. Just like my own family, where we may joke and tease each other, for the sisters it’s a united front against the rest of the world. Lipperman has given the characters laugh out loud dialogue, and enjoyable personalities. Each of the sisters is a strong, independent woman with their own place in their small town world. This is a well-paced book, and the plot provides many twists and turns as you try to guess who is the murderer. I work full time, and I’m a wife, mother, and grandmother. There is a lot going on throughout my busy days. Reading this series provides a sublime escape, and I highly recommend it for everyone. One of my tests of a good story is “Just One More Chapter”. You all have done it, when you know you should turn out the light and go to sleep, but you mutter to yourself “just one more chapter”, and continue reading. Jailhouse Glock passed this test with flying colors. This story will definitely stand on its own, but if you can get both books, read Heard It Through the Grapevine first. Lainey’s story will provide additional background for this one. I’m eagerly waiting the next book in the series.

4 STARS This cozy mystery was pretty good. Kept me guessing on a lot of it. Did figure out a few clues. Yea Me! The plot was good. Characters were fun for the most part. Clean read. Romance of the story was weak. Maddy was alone at the police station with the prisoners on Thanksgiving. When things went really wrong for her and the two prisoners. Her dead sister Tessa shows up to help her. This is the second book in the Dead Sister Talking. Last time only Lainey saw her. This time it is Maddy's turn. Maddy is arrested for murdering her prisoner. Everyone knows she did not do it, but the evidence is stacked against her. Colt had to suspend her from the force with pay while they look into it. He tells Maddy and all her sisters to stay away from the case. A expensive lawyer contacts Maddy he wants to take her case for the publicity at a fraction of the cost. A ex-cop wants to rent Maddy's upstairs rooms for a month while he is in town on a case. Lots of action, humor, as they try and figure out who the dead guy was. I like Maddy and her sisters. They are close and care for each other. You want things to work out for all of them. I wonder if each of the four sisters will have the chance to see Tessa in the future. I would read more in this series. The setting is Grapevine, Texas The pacing is pretty fast. The story is always moving forward. Did not put the book down till I finished reading it. I was given this ebook to read for purpose of giving honest review of it by Netgalley. publication: May 8th 2014 by Midnight Ink 288 pages ISBN 9780738739939

When the going gets tough, the Garcia girls get tougher… As a rookie cop in Vineyard, Texas, Maddy Castillo—war widow, single mom, and the oldest of the five Garcia girls—is not exactly flush with cash. But her money problems are nothing compared to the trouble that starts when she’s framed for the murder of an obnoxious drunk. Lucky for Maddy, the ghost of her dead sister and her three living sisters are on the scene to help. And help is exactly what Maddy needs—hardened criminals have descended on Vineyard, and one of them has lost a prized possession that turns out to be a treasure worth killing for. Dollycas’s Thoughts I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book and thankfully NetGalley shortened that time just a bit. I love the Garcia sisters. especially Tessa! Just because she is dead doesn’t mean she can’t help catch a killer. This time Maddy is the only one that can see and hear her because she is the sister that is in trouble. Again these sisters rally together, this time to find out who is framing Maddy for murder. Maddy is the newest member of the Vineyard police force but when a prisoner is murdered on her watch, with her gun, she is quickly suspended until her name is cleared. Maddy’s sister just happens to be married to the head of the Vineyard’s Police Department. He begs the girls to let the police handle the situation but they just can’t keep from getting right in the middle of the investigation. Lipperman has created wonderful characters. Maddy, Lainey, Kate, Deena and Tessa have that true sister relationship. They don’t always get along or agree with each other but when one of them is in trouble they come together, one even from her “eternal peace” to help. I love love the little digs they send each other and Tessa is hilarious. Maddy filters some of her words as she relays to the others what was said. She has also written a very complex mystery, framing a cop isn’t easy. The story is full of so many twists and turns some even get turned inside out. It was fun following the clues. There were more than a few surprises. The investigation even brings in an investigator from out of town that ends up renting a room from Maddie…. This story is soooooo goooooood!!!!!! We continue to learn more and more about these sisters. I am really excited for what happens next. What or who will bring Tessa back for another visit? Only the author knows but I can’t wait to find out!!
