Overview

From the New York Times bestselling author of Jake Undone, comes a full-length standalone companion novel and sequel.

A different side to the story: Jake's side.

"We're getting a new roommate," they said.

I thought nothing of it...until she walked in the door. Her hand trembled in mine as she looked at me with fearful eyes. My entire world spun on its axis.

Nina...

It was a mismatch made in heaven: innocent girl from the boonies moves in with tattooed, pierced, badboy engineer.

I came up with a bet, a plan to tutor her in math and coach her through her phobias. What I wasn't betting on was becoming addicted to her.

But I was living a double life on weekends, and once she found out about it, she'd be gone.

I had to protect myself and that meant one thing: I couldn't fall in love.

In Jake Understood, pivotal scenes from Jake Undone are retold from Jake's point of view combined with ALL-NEW material from both the past and present time where Jake Undone left off. It can stand alone but if both books are read, should follow Jake Undone. Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

What a great way to look forward into their lives while reliving what Jake was thinking during certain moments of Jake Undone.  Nina and Jake find themselves married for 9 years and coming to grips with the way things have played out.  Nina has been more than understanding with Jake visiting Ivy on Saturdays and keeping his connection with her.  When certain events transpire, Jake finds himself alone and wanting to sort out what is happening with Nina.  Nina finally does what I thinks she should have done years ago and confronts one of her fears.  It was touching how Jake relayed the story to Skylar and Mitch of his beginning with Nina and how they had to work their way toward their happily ever after.  Jake finds himself worried that Nina has had enough and wants to leave him over her feeling second best in his life.  Nina has other issues she is dealing with and finally clues Jake into what is going on.  The ending was very well done and I was left with a big smile on my face with the way things finally played out.  Great job by Penelope Ward.

Penelope did it once again for me. Her books and characters never fail to amazing me. Even though this is a retelling of Jake Undone from Jakes side its so much more then that. You not only get to see Jakes side of things from his POV, but also future into the future after Jake and Nina first met as well, plus some other truly touching parts as well.Penelope books always make you feel every emotion possible from happiness, sadness, angry, frustration, to love, passion and so much more. Both Nina and Jake will always be very special characters to my heart, as I've never been able to find 2 characters that I've been able to relate to and identify with in all the books I've ever read in my life and I want to thank Penelope for making such amazing characters overall as with her books I've read. I was so sad at the end that Jake and Ninas story was over, but they will always be with me no matter what <3 Truly amazing book, couldn't put it down for anything. You will not be disappointed at all with any of Penelopes books, and Jake will melt your heart to pieces, just as he's done with mine. #TeamJakeForever

I have been looking forward to Jake Understood since I learned that Penelope Ward would be writing a companion novel to her fantastic book, Jake Undone. Jake Undone is where I first met Jake and Nina. I was swept up in their complex and very hot romance, and felt very much like they were my friends, especially Jake. Knowing that Jake Understood would be much of the same story told from Jake's POV had me curious...how could this relationship I knew so well and was so comfortable being a part of, get any better? Well, It DID!! I LOVED Jake Understood and reading Jake's view on the beginnings of his relationship with his now wife, Nina. I was thrilled to re-live several of the most engaging moments of Jake Undone, and witness what Jake was feeling during those times!! Penelope Ward did a wonderful job of making sure our Jake was sexy, adorable and vulnerable at the same time!! I devoured the visits from past friends and characters, Mitch, Skylar, Allison and Cedric, making them very present once again! I admired Jake for his loyalty. I gave Nina credit for trying. I swooned at the romantic gestures and laughed my butt off at some of the attempts made by both. I embraced the new developments of this story, and felt like they were little bits of oxygen only on the page to make my life lighter, easier and better, even though I shed a few tears in the process.. So yes, I loved Jake Understood, and if I could write how my heart felt when I finished the book, my heart would write that it was happy to be home.

A different side to the story: Jake's Side. Jake Understood is basically Jake Undone only told slightly different. Jake is at home with some of his and Nina's friends waiting for Nina to get home. Jake recounts Nina and his journey to their friends. The reader learns more about Jake and his past, growing up, his first marriage, his relationship with Nina, and more. I recommend reading this after Jake Undone because it takes place 9 years after Jake and Nina work out the kinks in their relationship. It was a perfect way to end their story so to speak. If fills in the gaps and gives Jake and Nina their final HEA!

First i'd like to say I usually don't care for their point of view stories. It's like they repeat the same story almost word for word. But I loved Jake Undone so much I thought I'll give it a try. I'm so glad I did. I loved this story I knew it, but felt it was a different story about Jake and Nina. More details into their life but, also getting Jakes side of the things happened. The way it was written very smart and a great read. It was awesome!

OK well here it goes......as I sit here trying to write my review for this AMAZING book....one significant word pops into my head....PERFECTION!!!!  OMG there are no words to describe how much I LOVED this story but I am going to try.  This is the story of Jake Green from Jake Undone in his POV and boy what a view it was.  I first loved Jake in  Penelope's book Gemini where he was introduced and my love for him just grew and grew from there.  This story is told in his point of view but don't be fooled that this is just a retelling of the events of Jake Undone.  It could be read as a standalone but it would help to read Jake Undone to get a better insight into this amazing book.  It is simply so much more.  We have a chance to get into Jake' head and see exactly what he was thinking, exactly what he was imagining, exactly how amazing he was, exactly how loving, caring, compassionate he was with Nina and exactly how much he loved his Nina through his eyes!!!  We learned to love and appreciate Jake even more if that was even possible.  He was so sweet towards his Nina in every way that counts.  He was so passionate, adorable and sexy beyond the pages and we see how he truly loved and cared for Nina.  They have been through so much together but in the end of Jake Undone their love prevailed.  I  loved how loyal he was to Nina and to Ivy as well.  His loyalty toward her never failed and still cared about her after all those years....a true gentleman in every sense of the word.  Jake's actions always tugged at my heart through the little "bat" notes he sent Nina, to the beautiful poems he wrote her.  His tutoring Nina to get better grades was just another way that made Jake shine through our eyes and his because he always took her on some adventure to help her overcome her fears.  He helped her conquer these fears of flying, being in subways, and elevators where no one else even tried....truly an unselfish act for the love of his life.  It was nice to read about Nina's thoughts as well, how she felt about Jake, Ivy, their lives together and definitely about Ivy....this was beautifully done.  Penelope did an amazing job writing this in Jake's point of view and it is a story that everyone should read.  They will experience everything I felt....happiness, joy, sadness, frustration but most of all LOVE for both Nina and Jake.  I would highly recommend this five star book to anyone who wants to sit back and read story that is filled with so much love and desire for all things good.  My hat goes off to Penelope Ward for this inspiring and amazing book and for making us believe that there is happiness and love to found if only you give it a chance and trust one another always.  Thanks Penelope for this beautiful story, for all your amazing stories, your beautiful, touching and inspiring words and for always making me smile that much more after reading your amazing books especially Jake Understood.  I can't wait to read your next books because you will always have a loyal follower in me !!!!!

I loved this series

I've been looking forward to this book but I was both eager and a little worried.  Although I love the male point of view, I was worried this story was going to be a retelling of Jake Undone, exclusively from Jake's point of view. Especially since there had been parts from his perspective in Jake Undone, I wasn't sure how Penelope Ward could improve on that, but my fears were completely unfounded. But my fears were completely unfounded.  I loved Jake Understood and Penelope Ward did a great job at taking a story many readers knew and turned it into something new and exciting.  I loved how this story pulled me in. It was everything I was hoping it'd be.  Part of the reason this book was so amazing was being able to experience everything from Jake's perspective.  His mind was an interesting place to be.  I realized he didn't see Nina's immediate attraction to him, something she was worried was obvious.  In fact, he was drawn to Nina almost immediately.  So in way, they way they danced around each other was really one long courtship. I loved being able to relive their relationship from the very beginning.  Jake Understood contained so much new material, especially in that regard. I particularly loved how the new stuff was mixed in with the old stuff.   I got really emotional at parts of this book.  As in trying to stop my watering eyes from overflowing while I was public.  I would've been a sobbing mess if I hadn't.  I loved how I forgot where I was to the point that almost happened.  Jake and Nina have faced so many challenges.  Their unyielding love for one another is what got them through the tough times.  That's inspiring and something I aspire to. That's not to say this book was all sad tears.  There were happy tears too and moments of laughter interspersed with smiling. I'm trying really hard to convey how amazing this book is without giving away anything that happens in it.  Which is hard, and every time I think of something to say, I realize it might be a spoiler.  Which stinks.  So basically this is what everything boils down to.  This book isn't rehashing a story you've already read in Jake Undone. In fact, it can be read on its own, so for everyone out there who hasn't read Jake Undone, it's perfectly okay to start with this book. There's new elements and aspects that will leave you speechless.  It's emotional and powerful and you'll love it like I did.

Ok, if you've read Gemini, you know Jake, Alison's brother.  If you've read Jake Undone, you've gotten to know Jake through mainly Nina's perspective. If you've read My Skylar, you've seen Jake with others. Now meet Jake. Jake's just getting back from a visit to Ivy's - while trying to surprise Nina with a party on Saturday, he changed up his routine to see Ivy on Friday. Enter ridiculous New England weather, and Jake gets stuck overnight. Coming home the next morning, Nina leaves, telling him she needs to sort some things out. We all know what happened last time she sorted things out. Forgetting to start contacting people, Skylar and Mitch show up. Jake explains what happened and Skylar asks for him to explain his and Nina's history to Mitch. So starts the story of Jake Green. When I first heard about this, I was a little nervous. I absolutely love Penelope's writing, and I knew I loved Jake, but how often have we read the story "from his POV"? This story is not like that at all. Slight breaks from then to now, seeing how Jake felt about a lot of things going on with Nina from their first meeting, to facing her fears, to her finding out about Ivy and further. This story not only tells you what Jake was going through when he met Nina, but where his head was at before he met her, and where he, and they, are now.  Wonderfully written and beautiful, I cannot say enough good things about this story. If you think you've met Jake, you don't know anything yet. Grab Jake Understood today!
