“Which brings us again, after this long way about, to Jane Austen and her novels, and that troublesome question about them. She was great and they were beautiful, because she and they were honest, and dealt with nature nearly a hundred years ago as realism deals with it to-day. Realism is nothing more and nothing less than the truthful treatment of material, and Jane Austen was the first and the last of the English novelists to treat material with entire truthfulness. Because she did this, she remains the most artistic of the English novelists, and alone worthy to be matched with the great Scandinavian and Slavic and Latin artists.” – William Dean Howells

As has happened with many of history’s greatest writers, Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) did not earn the credit she was due until well after her death. Austen was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, has earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature over the last 150 years.

Austen’s romantic fiction was an interesting genre that belied the fact her writing was laden with realism and a scathing critique on society and the role women played in it during her life. Austen tried several different types of literary styles before settling on writing novels from 1811-1817, releasing Sense and Sensibility (1811), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816). The novels highlighted the dependence of women on marrying high to reach a better social status and financial security.

The Jane Austen Collection looks at the life, works, and influence the famous British novelist had over her contemporaries and successors. Along with an original biography, this collection Austen’s most famous classics. It also includes pictures, a bibliography and a Table of Contents.

Can't believe I got 7 Jane Austen books for this cheap. I love all of her works, but Pride and Prejudice is my favorite. Each book has its own link in the table of contents.

There are so many pages!!! Wow. But the novels had links in the table of contents. Also, the language of the novels were not "edited" or changed to current language, which I found to my liking. Really good collection and I would recommend it. Just brace yourself!;) LOVE JANE AUSTEN BOOKS!!!:D

I've seen reviews that say the links do not work and the text is formatted incorrectly. I found when I adjusted the font size everything was fine. I had no problems with the links either. I'm glad to see the entire collection in one place and I do have to admit-I've never read one of her books. I am happy with this selection.

Any fan of Jane Austen's work will love to have this volume in their collection. To read them all for the first time, second, or in some cases tenth or twelfth, is to take a trip back in time and space to an era that is brilliantly drawn with multi-dimensional characters we feel we know. The stories and pages come to life and deliver an unforgettable experience.

Cost me almost nothing and have had no problem being able to read all the books. Never a bad choice to read Austen, in any form. She easily captures the women and men of her time and her characters are everything from ridiculous and amusing to strong and sophisticated.

I've read the usual 6 published works of Jane Austen many times, but this is the first time I've had a chance to see her "Juvenilia". Thanks for making this possible!

The description states "This ebook includes an active table of contents for easy navigation." It does not. You must guess the page number and find the beginning of each book by trial and error unless you wish to read the books in the order they are presented. The writing is of course fantastic.
