Barnes & Noble - William Pearl
The passion of John Caird and Paul Gordon's musical score matches the romantic fervor of their source material: Charlotte Bronte's classic Victorian novel, Jane Eyre. In keeping with the overheated Gothic elements of the well-loved literary work, the show's music has a sweep and grandeur that grasps and seduces the listener. Grand love, obsessive passions, uncontrollable violence, mystery, and heart-rending tragedy -- in other words, all you can ask for in today's inflated Broadway experience -- can all be found, mirrored in the expansive score. Is listening to this recording an equivalent to reading Bronte's huge work? Of course not, but the melodious power of the ...

    Passionate and Beautiful Music

I am a big fan of the book Jane Eyre, and a fan of broadway musicals, so naturally I gave this a try. I absolutely love it- Jane has a great voice that really captures the passion of her feelings.

    Breathtakingly beautiful music!

Beautiful arrangement of songs that stir the soul and delightfully seem to follow this magnificent classic story. Duets with such emotion, a must buy!!!! ,,

    Jane Eyre is the Best

Jane Eyre is hands-down the best Broadway musical ever. The story follows the novel very closely, and the music is without a doubt the best music ever written for the stage. Maral Shaffel, James Barbour, Elizabeth DeGrazia, and Mary Stout are all amazing performers.

    Jane Eyre Absolutely Breathtaking!

Jane Eyre is my alltime favorite Broadway musical. James Barbour's Mr. Rochester is spellbinding. His voice is so beautiful it fills up your soul. He makes you laugh, he makes you cry. Mr. Barbour is the best Mr. Rochester I have ever seen or heard and I have seen and heard them all. I recommend this CD highly!!!

    Magnificent!

This CD is remarkable for its sensational lyrics, haunting and enchanting melodies, and gorgeous singing. The All Music review written above missed the mark entirely. James Barbour's voice is among the best on Broadway. Marla Schaffel does remind me of Julie Andrews at times and she deserves the best actress award at the Tony's. The liner notes and the dialogue scattered throughout theCD make it easy to follow the story line. ''As Good As You'' is my favorite. ''Brave Enough for Love'' is clearly the showstopper and the melody you will hum long after the CD has been played. If you get a chance to see the actual show you will love every minute of it.

    This was really good

I saw this musical last night and it was one of the best musicals I have ever seen. The music was one of the big factors in the intensity and suspense of the plot and this is a great cd for anyone, music lover or not.

Biased Opinion - Jane Eyre is in my blood!

Not having seen the show, but having read the novel a few times and having generations of females in my family as true Jane Eyre fans, I will say that this musical is exceptional! I bought the ''Original Cast Recording'' when it came out in 1997, but they have rearranged melodies to fit the story line with fluidity and added songs that are breath-taking! The story of Jane Eyre put to music is pure genious! Marla Shaffel and James Barbour are amazing.

Jane Eyre Takes Broadway By Storm

It is wonderful. When I frist read the novel I always thought that it would be a wonderful vechile for a Broadway Musical. I was right. Buy it! Enjoy it! It will make a wonderful gift for the English major in your house and if there is not one buy it anyway for a much beloved daughter. It will get her hooked on heroines of worth and reading. I cann't wait to see it.
