All Music Guide - Alex Henderson
After Control and Rhythm Nation 1814, Janet Jackson had quite a lot to live up to. Anyone who expected Jackson to top Rhythm Nation -- her crowning achievement and an incredibly tough act to follow -- was being unrealistic. But with janet., she delivered a respectable offering that, although not as strong as either Control or Nation, has many strong points. As before, Jackson is joined by the prolific Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis team, and their input is valuable on everything from the angry "This Time" and the hypnotic "That's the Way Love Goes" to the '60s-flavored "What'll I Do" and the sociopolitical "The New Agenda" which features Public Enemy leader Chuck D. But perhaps the CD's most exciting track is "Funky Big Band," which samples jazz legend Lionel Hampton's 1938 big-band classic "I'm in the Mood for Swing" with thrilling results. There are a few throwaways including the lightweight ballad "Again", but despite its shortcomings, janet. is a welcome addition to her catalog.

    Best of all her CDs

This CD began to emerge the Janet that is here today. I love this album because of its softer side. Everyone should own this CD.

    Great album

In 1993 Janet Jackson was still receiving critical and commercial success from her 10 million selling album "Rhythm Nation" and the world began to wonder what it was Janet had in store for her next album. I bet no one would have predicted that in 1993 Janet would release perhaps one of the best albums of all time. This is not just coming a Janet fan, but from a die-hard music fan. The album simply titled "janet." is the ultimate pop/r&b album you will probably ever purchase. In my opinion this is what made the world take Janet as a serious artist in the music industry. This album touches on pretty much every style of music there is. You can tell by listening to this record that Janet was exploring many types of music while recording it. The tracks that stands out to me are : "If", "That's The Way Love Goes", "Because Of Love", "Throb", "You Want This", "Any Time, Any Place", "The Body That Loves You", "Where Are You Now", and "Again". The songs on this album are so amazing. It is natural that this is the album everyone associates Janet Jackson to now. If you do not already own this album then I suggest you go and buy it. You do not know what you are missing!

    One of Janet's Best!

i found this album worth listening to. It has rock-and-soul songs, funk songs, slow grooves, ballads, sex songs, and a few interludes, revealing Jante's thoughts. If you don't have this album, get it now.

    Music with a purpose

Janest Jackson expresses millions of different emotions and moods in this single comprehensive album. It is a true work of art, conveying the essence of love, sadness, anger, hope, and so many other feelings that connect the human race. I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever felt anything.
