Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Judy Katsh
Another entry in the "Science for Every Kid Series," this one focuses on such geography topics as; The Earth in Space, Weather, Mapping, and Population. The activities are readily done with clearly outlined background information, comprehension checkpoints, step-by-step directions, and explanatory follow up notes for each one. The lessons span many learner readiness levels from the elementary, (Where is the Earth in space?) to the advanced (How do you find the variation between geographic north and magnetic north?), although most activities seem best suited to intermediate and junior high school scientists. Geography, often a dry topic characterized by lists of facts and place names to be memorized, comes alive here thanks to Janice Van Cleave's unique ability to translate abstract and complicated ideas into simpler, viewable realities.
